"Camping? Really?" Mom said in a sarcastic tone and when she noticed I had a bag packed, and was serious, she stopped. "I don't know how I feel about this."
A lump in my throat made it hard to talk, and the fact that I hated lying to my mom. "You want me to be like the other kids, they're all going camping this weekend and invited me. Come on mom,"
Mom watched me for a moment before sighing and nodding, "Fine, but I want updates on you. Every hour."
"Mom, my phone will die if I do that." I complained, even though the situation wasn't real I still found it irritating. She shot me a look, "Okay, I'll send you a message a couple times a day."
"At least five times,"
"Deal."
And with that I headed to Madam Luna, the pretend chaperone waiting in the driveway, who waved way too hard at my mom. After climbing into the car, and Madam Luna waving again, we were off to meet Istvan.
In truth I have never been to Istvan's house and was surprised when we pulled up in the driveway of a very interesting house.
It was an ordinary house with a small garden in the front and a large tree to the side. Even though the house was white with pale blue shuttered, it had a haunting undertone to it. An involuntary shiver went down my spine as Madam Lina texted him.
Not have a second later, Istvan appeared from the doorway of the house with a bag thrown over his back and a woman following him. The woman was petite with black straggly hair, she was holding a pan in her hand.
She didn't come towards the car but instead yelled to him from the front porch, demanding that he return and not leave the property. Istvan didn't though, he climbed into the back of Madam Luna's car, ignoring her completely and not making eye contact with us.
The woman stared hard at the car as her thin bathroom picked up in the wind, the pan in her hand was limp.
After looking at him in the mirror, Madam Luna pulled out of the driveway and headed towards her house. She was worried about what the Doctor would do to us, if he would trying a snatch us during the night, or attempt to convince us to leave with him. The last one would take a lot of convincing for me but something tells me that it wouldn't take much convincing for Istvan.
Apparently, Doctor Williamson has been in touch with Madam Luna, continuously asking her to reconsider his proposal. The proposal of where he ships us off to France to spent the rest of our lives in a lab.
No thank you.
The car ride was silent except for the very low sound of the radio which signal continued to come and go. The usual sight of towering trees, fluffy shrubs, and miles of grassy lands has become welcoming on the way to Madam Luna's house.
Glancing towards her I wondered how she did it, how she avoided so many incidents and had become so good at it. Earlier she had mentioned that she was a Pure Blood and experienced the same as we did. Has she seen the Skelton?
She had mentioned that she uses charmed jewelry, and my eyes fell onto her large moon snapped necklace. However, by this time we had arrived at her house.Madam Luna had prepared a meal of rice, chicken with a herb sauce, and some vegetables from her garden. She inquired about school and hobbies to keep the silence away at the dinner table. She had also been trying her best to make us feel homey since we'll be staying her the next few days.
"-so English would be easier without that essay but it's still me favorite," I shrugged at the end as I stabbed my fork into a piece of chicken, Madam Luna was a pretty good cook.
"What about you Istvan?"
He sat there quietly, slouched in his chair as he stared down at his plate. After a moment, and a shrug, he finally mourned, "I prefer elective classes,"
Before Madam Luna could say anything else a sound came from above us, from the roof, like footsteps.
She stayed calm however but Istvan and I couldn't hide our fright and I was soon sitting on pins and needles. Through the front door, which sat directly behind Istvan and was mostly class, a odd shape appeared that jumped onto the ground with a heavy thud. Thick, dark, ached legs appeared, then a broad should torso piece, this is when I noticed hair. And a full moon.
My body trembled as I glanced at Madam Luna who only offered a small smile at me. Istvan has become deathly pale and very tense. We both clearly noticed it but she have no signs. Did she not see this thing?
Then it was gone and knock broke the silence, which made Istvan and I both jump.
"Children," Madam Luna stood and gripped the handle of the door. "I'd like to introduce you to the American Werewolf."
