Chapter 12.5: Semi-stable family

We all watched from the building as the quinjet landed, "Ready?" They all nodded their heads as we walked out of the building. T'Challa was speaking to Steve and Nat, " You will have my King's Guard, the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and..." Bucky moved quickly, "A semi-stable, 100 year old man with his beautiful wife and twin daughters." He gave Steve a hug as Nat came up to me, giving me a tight hug too. "Glad to have you back, Blaire. Now where are my nieces." She exclaimed. I moved to the side to show a now shy Avaline and Lucy, "Nat, Steve, This is Avaline and Lucy. Our daughters. They'll be joining us on the fight." Nat went up and hugged them. Banner and Rhodey gave me a weird look. "Nice to see you, Banner, Rhodey." I hugged them quickly as I saw Wanda already talking to the girls. I stood back and smiled. Bucky hugged me from behind.

"I really missed this, Buck." He kissed the top of my head. "I'll stay out here with Sam. You take the girls inside." I nodded as I walked away. "Hey! After this, I think we should go dancing!" He shouted as I turned back. "Mmm, maybe we can Sergeant Barnes." I sent a wink to him as I lead the girls inside.

In Shuri's lab, Shuri scans the Stone on Vision's head with her kimoyo beads. She flips her hand over and studies the hologram projected over her palm. "Whoa, the structure is polymorphic." She said as Lucy stood by her, watching intently. "Right, we had to attach each neuron non-sequentially." Banner said. "Why didn't you just reprogram the synapses to work collectively?" Lucy spoke as she looked between Banner and me. We looked at each other and shared uncertainty. "Because, we didn't think of it." Shuri and Lucy shared a look, "I'm sure you did your best." I walked back to the window as they began to talk to each other. "Can you do it?" Wanda said as she walked closer to Vision. "Yes, but there are more than two trillion neurons here. One misalignment could cause a cascade of circuit failures." She turns to T'Challa. "It will take time, brother."

" How long?"

" As long as you can give me."

Okoye's kimoyo beads chime an alarm; she flicks one bead into her palm, where it projects the globe with a pulsing location marker. "Something's entered the atmosphere." I look out into the sky, seeing dozens of ships heading closer to us. The defense shield over the Golden City destroys one of the alien vessels when it slams into the field at full attack acceleration. "God, I love this place." I said as I looked back down. "Yeah, don't start celebrating yet, guys. We got more incoming outside the dome." The shock waves and debris from the ship landings destroy acres of forest and boil up against the dome. The lab giving us an excellent view of the landing sites. Steve and T'Challa look at each other in concern over the scope of what they'll be facing. Vision was struggling to sit up and attempting to get off the exam table. " It's too late. We need to destroy the stone now." I began to walk towards him, "Vision, get your a*s back on the table."

"We will hold them off." Okoye and the guards head for the door. "Wanda, as soon as the stone's out of his head... you blow it to hell." She nodded and I grabbed Lucy, "If you need to help Wanda, do so. She'll need."

"Evacuate the city. Engage all defense procedures." He stopped, turns, and points at Steve.

"And get this man a shield."
