Senis Academy

Chapter I / Prologue

    Kira Weaver walked towards the car that was supposed to bring her to a promising new school. She pleasantly got in, happy to finally get out of a thirteenth foster home. The school had amazing ratings, as far as the Internet knew. A solid 5/5. There weren't many reviews, but Kira was hoping that just meant there weren't many students. She was more of an introvert, anyway.

    Mrs Chay, Kira's driver, looked to the back seat and smiled cheerfully.

    "Hello, Mrs. Weaver!" Mrs Chay gushed, "Let me tell you, the staff are so happy to have a new student joining our school. We've heard so many great things about you!" Kira, smiling and blushing, shook Mrs Chay's hand and thanked her for the ride and kind words.

    Mrs Chay wasn't lying, either. Kira was known for being a straight A+ student. There were rumours among students from West Veil, the school Kira had gone to before Senis, that the lowest grade Kira had ever gotten was an A, and she was marginally upset at even that.

    After a bit of driving, Mrs Chay arrived at the school. Kira couldn't help but realize the school had a razor-sharp, extremely tall barbed wire fence, and a slightly taller wall behind that. The barbed wire looked like it'd been sharpened every day for the past month.

    "Uh. Mrs Chay?" Kira mumbled a bit worried, "What is that for?" She gestured towards the barbed wire and wall combo.

    "Oh.. The barbed wire. That scares everyone. Don't worry about it. It's just so.." Mrs Chay hesitated for a moment as if trying to find a good reason for the barbed wire, "Ugh, silly memory. It's just so the animals, especially the ones who can climb, can't get in and start chaos. I'm sure there's at least a couple students who'd scream if they saw a squirrel in their bed when they woke up." Mrs Chay finished.

    Kira nodded. It made sense, some animals could climb extremely well, and some were vicious, so it was credible that the school didn't want them near the building. But that hesitation from Mrs Chay. It almost made Kira suspicious.
