Chapter II

Mrs Chay walked Kira up to the school building, but Kira noticed that, oddly, throughout the entire school, not a single soul was outside. She asked Mrs Chay about this.

"You're very observant.." Mrs Chay said and smiled, "That's good. Well. There are no students outside because they're either in class or in their dorms. Students aren't allowed to greet new arrivals immediately. There's been some.. Instances in the past that ended in some bad influences. But those students always get back on the right track."

Kira nodded again. Mrs Chay was giving her straight answers and she liked it. The duo arrived at the front doors. They opened automatically, and the two stepped inside.

Two kids looked like they were about to dash out of the building and to the closing exit gate, but Mrs Chay stopped them efficiently.

"Addison. Romeo. What are you two doing now?" Addison and Romeo looked remarkably nervous.

"Uh... N-Nothing, Mrs Chay. We just wanted to see if we could make friends with the new student.." Addison quickly covered. Romeo nodded.

Mrs Chay looked Addison directly in the eyes.

"You're not telling me the truth." she hissed. Addison's eyes widened.

"N-No! Mrs. Chay, they're telling the truth. I've learned the signs for when someone's lying. She's not. She just nervous and doesn't want to get in trouble." Kira hurriedly exclaimed, with a quick wink at Addison.

Addison and Romeo looked at her, surprised, but smiling slightly. Mrs Chay sighed.

"Well.." Mrs Chay mumbled, "I suppose you're right. But this is as far as I go. It's all you now. And I guess Addison and Romeo." She looked defeated.

Kira quickly hugged her and thanked her. Mrs Chay smirked and, after goodbyes, walked out the door back to her car. Romeo looked over Kira.

"You're small, probably. What, 4'10''? How old are you?" he muttered.

Kira giggled. "4'8''. And I'm fifteen." Addison giggled in return.

"You're so tiny." Addison muttered, "T-That's not a threat. If that's what it sounded like.."

"N-No. Not at all. I get that a lot." Kira said with a smirk, "In fact, you guys are pretty cool."

Both Romeo and Addison smiled.

"You too.. Well.. I should probably show you to your dorm." Addison said with a smile, "In fact, I'm pretty sure you're my roommate."

"Oh. And Kira? Please ignore everything Alec says." Romeo muttered, almost to himself. Kira didn't know what he meant, but she nodded and said she would.
