Addison and Kira were almost to the girls' dorm when Alec stopped them. He swiftly pushed Addison aside and grabbed Kira. Before Addison could react, Alec had taken Kira around the corner and was in a small conference room.
Kira tried to pry Alec's arm off of her's, but Alec just chuckled and sat her gently in a chair.
"W-Who are you?" Kira stuttered, afraid."I'm Alec." Alec said calmly, "I'm sure Romeo has told you not to talk or listen to me. But listen, you might have noticed the lack of adults here. That's because there are none. I guess that peasant" -- Kira gave him a dirty look, but Alec didn't seem to notice -- "Addison can tell you about the rules, but when there's no--"
The door opened. The orientation leader, Trevor, walked in and pointed to Kira.
"I need you for orientation. Every student has gone through orientation when they're new." Trevor half-mumbled.
"You can give her orientation in a minute, kid," Alec said. He shoved him out of the conference room and locked the door, then sighed.
"Now that he's gone... When there are no adults, there's no 'counselors' or 'teachers' to elect pity on you. You'll need protection. You'll want to join Society."
Kira was confused. "Society?" She asked gently. Alec smirked as if he'd gotten the question a lot.
"Society." He repeated, "It's sort of like a gang. There's 3 of them, but we are the largest and most powerful." Alec hesitated, then continued, "Well... I wouldn't call them gangs, more... small groups. I'm the leader of Society. We have the numbers and strength. Nobody messes with us."
As if on cue, the violently door burst open, even though it was locked. Addison stood next to Trevor.
"Stop trying to convert her to your little monarchy, Alec. We need Kira for orientation." Addison snapped.Kira got up to walk to Addison, but Alec quickly jumped up and blocked the door. Kira tried in vain to push him out of the way, but he suddenly jumped forward and padlocked the door. Everyone was now trapped in the room. Addison silently took a step forward.
"N-Now I understand what they meant by not listening to you," Kira said, fidgeting with the padlock.
"What was that?" Alec challenged. He looked her directly in the eyes. Kira tried to look back at him, challenging, but was honestly scared of him by this point.
"Oh, nothing." Kira returned, "I was just stalling for time."
Addison shook the keys in front of Alec and unlocked the padlock. The door swung open.
"Well." The headmaster, and the only adult in the school, looked on disapprovingly, "Alec, I thought you could be trusted, but look what you've done. I'd say holding students hostage would be detention. And Kira? I promise the rest of the school will not be like this." She looked sternly at Alec.
