Kira woke at 7:30 AM to Addison tapping her shoulder as she hurriedly got ready for the day.

"Addison.." Kira sleepily mumbled, "we don't have class until later on, remember?"

"Bastards changed the schedule at 6 AM, Kira. We have class at eight, now. I was going to wake you up, but I fell asleep myself. Get ready, our first class today is Physics, and Laura really isn't lenient with tardiness." Addison quickly reciprocated.

Kira hopped out of bed and speedily changed into her school uniform, complete with uncomfortable heels that made her look at least a sixth of an inch taller. Once she was done getting ready, it was 7:57 and Kira had to practically run, in heels, to her physics class.

She stepped inside, and was surprised to see a student she'd seen only moments earlier standing in the front of the room, until she remembered what Alec said about there being no adults here. She had decided that the most disturbing part of that memory was when Addison had noticeably shuddered at the mention of Alec getting detention from the headmaster. She'd ask about that later.

There was a short paragraph in the online guide from the school about detention, but when Kira had read it, it seemed harmless enough. Why did Addison seem so scared of detention? Kira had at least a hundred questions about this oddity of a school, and she hoped Addison would have the patience to answer them.

Laura clapped her hands twice, jarring Kira out of her thoughts as the room went completely silent. The only sound in the room was a small fan buzzing in the background, making another classmate shiver slightly.

Physics went on rather well, and the next period was considered free time. A perfect time to ask Addison her questions.
Kira walked over and sat with Addison, who was sitting alone on a small tablet, playing games.

"Hey Kira!" Addison gushed happily, "How are you?"

Kira blushed. She'd never seen someone so happy to see her. "Hi, Addison! Can I ask you some questions about this place?" She giggled, "Be warned... I have a lot."

Addison smiled. "Ask away." She said, putting the tablet down gently.

But as she was about to speak, a Society member "accidentally" bumped into her shoulder with a decent amount of force. She didn't have to look at him for too long to realize it was Alec. Kira rubbed her shoulder.

"Owww.." she muttered. She noticed Addison getting up to scold him. "D-don't waste your time, he's probably just mad about yesterday."

Addison sat down. "True," She sighed, "Now, where were we? Your questions?"

Kira nodded.

"I've heard some students mentioning things about "contracts." What are those?" She asked.

Addison simply nodded and replied, "Since there's no adults, contracts are like jobs. We work for points, and in turn, we use the points to buy things from the school's shop."

This just opened up a door to even more questions for Kira, but she just nodded and continued.

"I noticed you shuddered when you mentioned Alec getting detention, I'm guessing it's not as nice of a place as it's stated in the online guide?" She asked, gently putting her hand on Addison's back to comfort her, worrying she was scared of detention.

Addison shuddered again, it was like mentioning detention to her was a trigger to get her to shudder.

"N-No, Kira. Detention is the most disturbing part of the school." She quickly said.

"I don't mean to push you, but what do you mean?" Kira asked.

"I mean whoever has the security contract puts the kids to be sent to detention in an elevator. The elevator comes up about 5 minutes later, and no one is on it. We don't even know where it goes. My friend James was sent to detention 2 months ago. I haven't seen him since."

Kira quickly hugged her. "I-I'm sorry.." Addison smiled.

"It's okay. It's almost time for our third class though, so I'm going to go get my stuff, okay?"

Kira nodded, and as soon as Addison walked away, Kira started looking for this "elevator" Addison had mentioned. After about ten minutes of searching, she had obviously found it. It was in a small basement, and even had been crudely labeled, "to detention".

The elevator was creepy to Kira. There were no buttons, and the doors were already opened. It looked weathered, like it'd been standing there open for years. Kira gently put a foot into the elevator. The door started closing and she panicked, scribbling a note that read "SORRY! Didn't mean to set it off!"

She scuttled off to third period, only to be called to the front office.

"You've been contacted by the school." The attendant said, "they tell you that they saw your note in the elevator, and that it's okay."

Kira nodded and thanked the attendant, then ran back to third period.

But the thing that disturbed Kira the most about that elevator?

The traces of dried blood that she could see on the floor.

Author's Note:

Hey guys! Thanks for helping me to get to Chapter V! What do you think will happen next?

I'd just like to say I've been listening to your advice, and I will try to make the chapters longer. This chapter was supposed to be double the size of the others, but I only got about 1.5x. But anyhow, thanks for reading, no matter how stupidly short my chapters are. ♥️

Yours truly,
Kieave / Tyler
