CALLS AND TEXTS
____________________________
Naomi was avoiding him, again.
Jimin came with this conclusion when he spent the whole weekend texting her over and over again, without getting even a single reply. He knew that she was avoiding him because when he was with Hoseok, he overheard when his friend was talking with his girlfriend Mia saying that Naomi was with her. And plus it was impossible that Naomi had turned off her phone for the whole weekend.
But luckily for him, it was Monday again and he knew that she would be in the studio before classes, dancing. She, just like him was one of the few students who liked to dance in the early hours of the day. And he respected that about her, just like he respected her devotion to dancing - the mutual feeling they shared.
For the first time in his life he had mistaken about her, because not only that he didn't see Naomi in the studio that morning, but he didn't meet her at all that day. Wherever she was, she did a damn good job - avoiding him.
The afternoon practice was a mess. In fact, the whole day was a huge mess if you asked him. In the first period he got scolded by his Math professor. On the second, he realized that they were doing a test and he didn't even open a book the whole weekend. And after classes when he was supposed to have practice with Naomi, she decided not to show up.
Trying to get her out of his mind, he decided to at least practice by himself. He went along the routine multiple times only to mess up every single one of them. He even made mistakes on the moves that he knew by heart.
His eyes were roaming on the studio's door every five seconds because he still hoped that she would show up. Even though deep inside he knew that she wasn't going to come. But it's always how they say - hope dies last.
After few more hours of a failing practice, he decided to give up. But not before stumbling his left feet from his right one, and kissing the studio's floor. Holding up with the almost unbearable pain, he dragged himself towards his house. Hoping that a warm shower and few pain killers would help to ease his pain, Jimin crushed on his bed.
Aside from the pain in his leg, he was starting to feel the migraine slowly but surely creeping in his head. He was sure that in no matter of time, he would suffer from her as well.
But the main source of his suffers was not the pain. Being a dancer, he learned to live with the accidents. It was no secret that he constantly ached from neck or back pain. Not to mention that his feet were always burning from exhaustion after every practice. But this was different. Jimin was not used to deal with different. And he definitely didn't know how to deal with Naomi.
Why did he send her more than ten texts over the weekend? Why did he felt like he needed to explain himself for the fight? Why, when she was suppose to be his sworn enemy and his competitor? He had no idea. His mind was not agreeing with him lately.
But there was one thing for sure. Even though he didn't want to admit it to himself, he just wanted to hear from her. Just a single 'hello' would have been enough to calm his nerve wracking condition.
Making up his mind, he decided to be the bigger person between them once again. He picked up his phone and dialed her number. He knew that there was a huge possibility that she wouldn't pick up, but he wanted to at least try. After all, the only thing that connected them was the upcoming competition and if they wanted to win it, first they needed to be partners.
After few beeps, unexpectedly she connected the call. A confessed 'hello' came from the other side of the line, but it was enough to warm every cell in Jimin's body.
He couldn't kill the urge of fake-clearing his throat and coughed few times before speaking. He opened and closed him mouth several times not uttering even a single word. It was not because he was afraid of talking, but because he didn't know what to say.
He made the call-scene multiple times in his mind, practicing what to say, but now when he really needed to speak, he acted as if a cat ate his tongue.
"Jimin, are you there?"
Naomi spoke again breaking the-almost-fifteen-second silence, waking Jimin's senses up.
"Yes, yes. I called because I wanted to ask you if you were okay."
"I'm perfectly fine. Why?"
"You didn't show up at practice today, so I was worried."
He blabbed without thinking. Just when his words left his mouth, he unconsciously moved his free hand to slap his mouth. Not only that he scolded himself for the said words, but on top of all he even felt anxious while waiting for her reply.
The following silence showed that she was taken aback from his words as well. Not wanting to create a more awkward situation, Jimin spoke again.
"I mean, we are dance partners right?"
"Yes, we are. I'll come tomorrow; if you like we can practice in the morning as well."
"Okay, because we also need to talk."
Not even thinking about his leg injury, Jimin agreed with the plan. He just hoped that the pain killers and the good night sleep will work their magic to heal his leg. If not then, he would dance with the injury if he had to.
If someone thought that a little pain would stop Jimin from doing what he loved to do, then it's obvious that they didn't know him. No one and nothing would come between him and dancing.
"Good night Naomi."
He waited few more seconds for her to say anything, but when he saw that she didn't have that intention, he just spoke for the last time before hurrying to disconnect the call.
Jimin thought that one call would be enough to calm his nerves, but now it seemed like his thoughts were flamingo dancing in his mind. The only thing that could save him from his misery was a good night sleep and the thought that he would see her tomorrow.
