I don't feel very good today.

My skin looks pale.

The nurse told me, Dad is going to come visit tomorrow and the next day, So Mom has to leave.

I wish they wouldn't make things so complicated.

"I'm going to need you to be brave, Mina."

"Why? What's going on?"

"Do you remember when the volunteer was here and the heart monitor went off?"

"Yeah. And his name is Hobi."

"Yes, well, something went wrong that day, and we're going to have to do some tests to make sure everything is OK."

"I don't like those."

"I know, that's why I need you to be brave."

I don't want to have to be brave anymore.

The needles hurt.

I wish my skin would get thicker so it wouldn't hurt so bad.

Or so they couldn't pierce my skin anymore.

Hobi came back to help with my English.

He wasn't smiling.

"What's wrong?"

"I just had a bad day, is all."

"What happened?"

He didn't say anything for a minute. I wondered if he fell asleep with his eyes open.

"I don't have many friends at school. People aren't as nice there."

"Oh..."

I wanted to put my hand on his shoulder or hug him, but the wires and tubes kept me away.

I wish he could have thicker skin too.

His smile didn't reach his eyes.

"But it's OK, I can still come here after. Can I show you my drawings?"

I hope this doesn't end for him.
