Chapter Ten ~ The "Holiday"

I sat in the waiting area. Not making eye contact with anyone... I had my head phones in, blocking the world out. I was constantly texting Leo, hoping for a reply, but nothing. Mum was damn right mental if she thought I was getting on a plane with her. She sat opposite me, giving me dirty looks every so often. Sam was doing colouring and Lilly was singing away to BAM on her iPod. We were practically the only ones around, the room was bare. Mum got up and walked towards the drinks machine, I got up and followed.

"Mum..." I asked, approaching cautiously.

"What." She snapped at me.

"Are we really going?" I asked disappointed.

She turned around, a look of sadness spread across her face.

"Yeah...yeah, we are" she said, her head hung low, she shuffled her feet uncomfortably side to side.

"Why?" I asked, disappointed in her.

"It's not safe for us here Beth" she said slowly.

"Gary?" I asked.

"Yes, he went mental, threatened to take Sam away" she peered around to Sam who sat on the floor colouring, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth in concentration.

I nodded my head slowly. Sam was like my best friend, if he went I don't see how I could go on. She pulled me into a huge hug and kissed me on the forehead.

"We're only going for two weeks and I've spoken to Blair, he's agreed to fly Leondre and Charlie out next week, so don't worry" she smiled.

I beamed at her, she really knew how too make me smile.

"This is the final boarding call for flight 301 to Melbourne" the call boomed around the airport.

I slowly opened my eyes, adjusting to my surroundings.

"This is the final boarding call for flight 301 to Melbourne"

I shot up, shook Mum awake and grabbed my stuff.

"MUMMM" I yelled at her before she woke up.

She rubbed her eyes, staring around the room. The voice boomed again once more before she understood, jumping her and grabbing her bags. She made sure we had everything before giving the lady our boarding passes and passports. I was the last to board the plane, I turned around and stared at the scenery I could see in the distance, I smiled and boarded the plane, finding my seat next to Lilly. The flight attendant showed us what to do in case of an emergency, as the Captain took off. I took one last glance of England through the tiny window before putting in my head phones and blocking out the world.

I had a playlist of mine and Leo's favourite songs, whenever I felt down I just plugged in my headphones and the songs kept me going. This was one of them moments. I pulled up my favourite picture of us two and just stared at it. His smile brought a smile to my face and it always has.

After a hasty 21hour flight we finally landed in Australia. The sun shone down on my face as I stepped off the plane, I lifted my hand to my eyes to shield myself from the sun. So this was going to be my life for the next 2 weeks. It doesn't look that bad I shrugged.

We trailed through Melbourne Airport to baggage claim. Spending half an hour finding Lilly's suitcase which had been reported "missing". After tantrums and tears we finally left the airport to the Park Royal hotel mum had booked previously. It was a nice hotel. Quite posh, way out of Mum's price range. I don't understand how she could afford it, but that wasn't the issue at the moment. After paying for the room and getting the key we made our way to room 108, a twin double room. Perfect for our family situation. After finding the room I threw my stuff on the bed and searched for accessories. It wasn't a bad room to be honest. Quite homely, Lilly and Sam had already made themselves at home, they threw themselves at their beds and just jumped up and down on them. Mum placed her stuff in the wardrobe and collapsed in hers, wrapping herself in the duvet like a caterpillar. I just laughed. Maybe the "holiday" won't be so bad...
