I woke up to the sound of Mum moaning in pain. I threw the covers off me, slipped on my slippers and dressing gown and ran to her bedroom.
She lay doubled over, clutching her stomach. She was in labour. Her due date wasn't till next week but I guess the baby wanted to be earlier.
"Mum, mum, I'm here" I chorused, rubbing her back through the dressing gown.
"Beth, call an ambulance!" She yelled in pain.
"I will, don't move"
I ran downstairs to grab the phone, after living in the house for two months I was familiar to where we kept everything. I struggled but eventually dialled 999.
"Emergency services, what service to you require?" The operated rang cheerily.
"Ambulance please" I replied quickly.
"What is your emergency?" A cheery women asked.
"My Mum's gone into labour and I have no way to get her to the hospital" I exclaimed.
"Don't panic, can I have your address please?" She asked me softly.
"Of course" I replied, slowly telling the lady my address.
"An ambulance is on it's way, is your Mum ok?" She asked me.
"Thank you, she's ok, just in pain, how long will the ambulance take?" I asked her.
"About 15 minutes, keep your Mum calm" the women replied gently.
"Thank you" I replied before hanging up and returning to Mum to check she was ok.
I walked in to find her sitting up right breathing heavily. I rushed to her side to help her up and down the stairs to the living room.
"Go and knock for Mrs Lovell" she panted to me, ushering me away.
"But Mum it's 4 o'clock in the morning?" I questioned.
"Just go!" She yelled, pushing me towards the door.
I swung it open and rushed down the garden path and out the gate to Mrs Lovell's house next door, I repeatedly knocked on the door to wake up Mrs Lovell. Two minutes later, a little old lady appeared at the door.
"It's 4am dear, what ever's the matter?" She asked alarmed.
"Mum's going into Labour, will you come over and look after Sam and Lilly so that I can go with Mum to the hospital?" I asked her hurriedly.
"Well of course dear, go and get dressed I'll be over in a minute" she replied quickly, ushering me away.
"Thank you" I exclaimed, rushing back to the house.
"Mum, she's coming" I yelled as I rushed upstairs to get changed.
I threw my hair up into a messy bun and threw on my converse tracksuit. Grabbing my overnight bag, charger and coat I rushed into Mum's room and grabbed her overnight bag and pillow. Making sure I had everything I rushed downstairs to see the living room and hallway illuminated with flashing blue lights. I rushed into Mum, left the bags with her and rushed to open the door to the medics.
Two women stood at the door, smiling.
"She's in the living room!" I rushed, showing them the way.
I was about to shut the door when I heard a small voice pipe:
"Bethany"
I spun around to find Mrs Lovell waddling up the path.
"Thank you Mrs Lovell, for helping." I smiled.
