Covering Up the Truth

Lily began to walk out of detention. "Miss. Taylor." Lily sighed as she turned around to face the older male teacher. "Yes, Mr. Lewis." She always liked Mr. Lewis's physics class. He was a pretty cool guy she thought. He smiled. "Today was my last day. This body isn't keeping up with you young folk anymore." He chuckled. "And Lily, promise me you won't stop asking questions until you get some answers."

Lily left the school, walking towards the wall. She walked slowly along the wall until she heard the sound of running water. "Running water?" She followed the sound until she reached a small gap under the wall. Lily crouched down, taking out her phone, clicking the flashlight. She leaned in further to get a better look at the water when she fell in with a splash. "Ahh!" she screamed. The strong current whisked her into darkness. Lily struggled to breath as she tried to keep herself afloat. She eventually fell into a large body of water. Lily swarm to a shallow part of the water and coughed out water. She stood up, wobbling slightly. Lily gasped when she realized where she was. A haze was overcasting the dirty liquid, while the smell alone made Lily want to throw up. She walked to the water and saw the plastic bags and bottles covering the water up as if it were a blanket. Lily swiped up on her phone and began to take pictures when she heard a noise. She followed the sound, trash crunching under her feet. She came across a dolphin. The flesh on one side of it was falling off while plastic was beginning to grow within its fins. Lily gasped causing it to look at her. She tripped on a fishing net as she tried to move backwards. Tears pricked the corner of her eyes as the dolphin inched its mangled body slowly towards her until its head reached her leg. Its eyes looked at Lily, pleading for the pain to end as it began to take its last breath. She placed her hand on its head as tears slid down her cheek. She knew what she had to do.
