Time Lapse

Hunter POV

I am really nervous about the second stage. The first stage was pretty easy, but nobody can prepare for the second.

All of the initiates sit in the chairs outside of a little room. Dad calls us in one by one.

I sit on my chair, nervously tapping my foot.

Jenny comes out of the room, shaking uncontrollably. She runs out of the hall that we are in. Her sobs echo off the walls, getting quieter as she gets farther.

"Selena." Dad says.

Selena stands and walks confidently into the small room.

Her, Dereck, and Evan are practically evil. Most of us hate them.

"What do you think is in there?" Lilly asks, breaking the silence. She looks at us expectantly, like she thinks we know.

"I have no idea." I answer truthfully.

"Nobody knows what stage two is and nobody can prepare for it." Ella says darkly.

After awhile, Selena bursts out of the room. She runs towards the exit.

"Hunter." Dad says. Sky gives my hand a reassuring squeeze and I get up and walk into the small room.

I see a chair, much like the one I sat in during the Aptitude tests, some syringes and serums, and a few computers.

"Sit." Dad says.

I plop down in the strange chair as my Dad prepares a syringe.

"What's that for?" I ask.

"This will simulate your worst fears, in preparation for the final test." Dad says as he sticks the needle in my neck.

"The serum will go into effect in 60 seconds. You have to either face your fear, or calm yourself down." Dad says.

My eyelids start to feel heavy.

"Be brave." My Dad whispers as I drift off.

________________

I wake with a start when a huge gust of cold wind hits my face.

I slowly open my eyes to see the whole city.

I look down. Big mistake.

I am at the top of a HUGE building.

I quickly snap my eyes shut.

I hate heights so much.

Wait.

This isn't real. I can just jump.

I step to the very edge of the roof.

Don't think. Just jump.

And that is exactly what I do.

______________

I wake with a jolt. I try and calm myself down.

My Dad comes and puts a hand on my shoulder.

"It's ok Hunter. It's over." Dad says.

"I'm gonna fail and become Factionless." I sigh.

"How long do you think you were in there Hunt?"

"I don't know? 20 minutes?" I ask even though it was probably way longer.

"You were in there for 5 minutes." Dad says.

"Woah." I huff.

"You can go out the front or the back. Good job Hunt."

"Thanks Dad." I smile as I leave the room, proud of my success.
