CHAPTER SEVEN, A SOUTHSIDE BEGINNING

"So, I was thinking." Maya started.

The two were seated at the kitchen table, discussing with coffee cups in their hands, steam floating away from the hot beverage, Lauren was tired. She hadn't slept in days, dreams of the guy who had tried to kill her and Fred plagued her like an endless battle. She was very well aware that this was only the beginning of hr problems. As her thoughts wondered back to the shooter, she rubbed her face in exhaustion.

"Lauren!" Maya snapped, making the girl jump in shock, she shook her head. "Are you listening to me?"

"No, I'm sorry, can you say it again?" Lauren answered truthfully.

"Are you taking your medicines?" Maya asked quietly.

Lauren exhaled, averting her eyes from her sister, she was quiet, which was enough of a response.

"Laur, come on, those medicines are just as important as your accident ones." Maya pleaded, her worried eyes trying to grab her sister's attention. "Why haven't you been taking them?"

"They finished a while ago, Maya, we don't have any money for more stuff, we're already struggling." Lauren told her shaking her head.

"Okay, that's what I wanted to talk about. I was thinking we could rent out this house too and move to Sunnyside Trailer Park, that way we'll get some more money, the trailers are really cheap and it's just the two of us now." Maya proposed, changing the topic quickly, she looked at Lauren's expression, thinking she won't be very happy but was shocked to see the opposite.

"Really! I think that's a great idea. Once Betty and Veronica figure out things with Pop's, I can start doing my shifts again and we can be closer to the Serpents now." Lauren quickly said, her happiness confusing the girl greatly.

"Why are you so excited about this?" Maya questioned, her eyebrows furrowed. She thought for a moment, wondering before her smile lit up, knowing exactly why she was so happy. "Ah, now I get it. You want to get closer to Jughead."

Lauren blushed deeply, shaking her head as Maya smiled at her before jokingly getting serious. "As your sister, do I need to have a talk about something with Jughead, I know you guys have been best friends for ages now but now that you are in a relationship-"

Lauren laughed, still tomato red in the face. "We are not having this conversation."

A knock on the door, made both the Davis sisters turn, knowing exactly who it was, Maya smirked, Lauren panicked, quickly grabbing her bag and slowly, still trying to go fast, made her way to the door.

"Hey-" Jughead started, Lauren grabbed his hand and dragged him away from the door, Maya's laugh echoing through the halls.

"I've been having nightmares." Lauren said, her hand intertwined with Jughead's as they walked to their class. Jughead frowned, looking at her with a sad expression. "I can't sleep, Jug. Every time I'm alone, I'm scared he's gonna come back for me, every time I close my eyes, I see his dark green eyes and I'm scared of the dark. I don't know what's happening to me."
