" Yes, people do become quite fond of meeting me, I'm aware since they always told me that" Jennie replied with a huge grin on her face.
" But you never answered my question. What were you doing in that Club tonight? A good girl like you. You don't just barge inside a club for no reason." Lisa was chuckling at Jennie's cockiness then stopped when she repeated her question. Despite growing comfortable around Jennie. She didn't feel like sharing personal information with her yet.
"It's kind of personal" Jennie raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything as they heard sirens blaring in the distance; signaling that the police is on their way to the club's direction.
"The police is finally here" Jennie murmured, glancing at the window in the living room, as if she could actually see the police cars. She nodded.
" Took them long enough though " Lisa replied. Jennie looked back at her and cocked her head to the side.
" Have anything against authorities Manoban? A criminal record maybe?" Jennie boldly asked, but with a teasing tone. She shook her head hastily and shrugged.
" It took them a long time to respond to crime scenes. Being servants of the law, they should at least be more alert, right?"
" Uhuh.." Jennie said slowly, nodding and looking at her with an amused smile.
" Servants being your choice of words, of course. Advocates or promoters would've been less.. degrading. But that's coming from someone closer to their class of people than you are, of course" She took a sip of her tea and gave Lisa a 'just saying' kind of shrug. Lisa then narrowed her eyes at the latter.
" What's that supposed to mean, 'Closer to their class of people'?"
" What I meant was that the police and I are in the same class of people. Middle class. Compared to you who's probably – well obviously – born with a silver spoon on her mouth. A part of the Upper class" Jennie said in a matter-of-factly tone. Lisa shook her head and looked at Jennie incredulously.
" Are you accusing me of judging people based on their status in life?"
" Aren't you?" Jennie challenged her.
" You clearly think the police is beneath you because they don't do their job as part with your standards. And the term 'servants' is kind of lost on people like me who can't really afford one."
" I don't just... what I meant... they could at least.." she sputtered, unable to make a comprehensive sentence. She couldn't believe Jennie was just sitting there acting so cool about everything while she was here seething with irritation. Before she could even say anything, the latter waved a hand to dismiss her efforts to rebut.
" I'm not saying these things to make you mad or anything okay? I'm just stating it as a fact. Since you're rich while I'm not, and so are the police. Well, most of them, anyway. For all we know, they don't respond that fast because they just came out of a second job or something when the call for backup came in. That's life. Not everyone has the same luxuries as others. In fact, some people don't have luxuries at all. Whether material luxury or the luxury of time. It was not meant to offend you." The latter explained since she can see the irritation on her guest's reaction. Lisa bit her lips and sighed.
" I don't judge people based on their financial status, okay. I don't judge people, period. Or at least, I hope I don't " she muttered. While the latter shrugged.
" We can't really say these things about ourselves. No one has that good insight about their personality. You should verify it by asking your friends if you're worried about being a prejudiced or not." She sipped her tea and didn't say anything. They both remained silent, the sound of police siren still in the background. But after a while Lisa decide to broke the silence.
