Demi's pov
*1 week later*
Wilmer and I wake up before Ariana which I'm happy about. She needs to sleep and I'm thrilled to know she was able to sleep without a nightmare. Poor baby needs some sleep. She's had a night mare every day since she's gotten here. This is the first day she hasn't had one.
"Why do you keep trying to bring me into conversations with Ariana when she doesn't really care?" Wilmer asks.
"Because she's your daughter and she needs to have a relationship with you too, not just me. I don't mind being doing everything for her and being the one she trusts, but I know that she needs to know that your nice and she can trust you. Right now she's scared of you and she's watching the interactions between me and you. She's seeing how I interact with you and watching if I'm scared of you. Me bringing you into conversations let's me involve you and let's me see how she feels about you. To see if she's learning to trust you or if she's still scared. But it also let's her learn a little bit about you too. I know she doesn't care to listen to me talk about you as long as she has me, but I need her to learn to trust you too. Because eventually I will have to work and she'll have to be here with you alone. I don't want her to be scared the entire time I'm gone, I want her to be able to trust you and you be able to do something fun with her." I say.
"It'll take time, a lot of time. I don't blame her for being scared. The only male she's has in her life didn't make her life easy." He says.
"She'll trust you Wilmer." I say.
He nods, "I know, but it will take time." He says and I nod.
I place a kiss on his lips, "I love you." I say.
He smiles, "I love you too hermosa." He says.
I put my head in his shoulder, "Since we're on the topic of Ariana, when are we going to tell her?" I ask.
"About the baby?" He asks.
"Mhm."
"Well maybe when you showing. I think that way she'll understand more. I don't know though." He admits.
"We'll figure it out soon." I say.
"Yeah." He says.
"I'm going to go check on her. It's unlike her to sleep until 8 in the morning." I say getting out of bed.
I walk to Ariana's room and see her wide awake in her bed, but looking absolutely miserable. Her eyes are red, she looks like she's in pain, and she looks so tired.
I sit next to her bed and gently pick her up from her bed and put her in my lap. My arms wrap around her small body and just hold her for a few moments. I looks down at her head in my chest and I place a kiss on the top of her head.
"I knew it was unlike you to sleep in late. I was wondering why you weren't out of bed yet. Now I see why, you don't feel good." I say softly.
I feel the top of her head and she's burning up, "Alright, let's get you some medicine sweetheart." I say.
I carry her downstairs and set her on the kitchen counter by the medicine cabinet. I grab the children's Tylenol and pour it into the medicine cup for her.
"Can you drink this for me Ariana?" I ask.
She shakes her head, "It tastes good and it'll make you feel better. I promise." I say.
She gives in and takes the cup from my hand and quickly takes the medicine. I give her a smile and lean in to kiss her forehead, "Thank you. Do you want to come lay in bed with your daddy and I now? You can lay next to me and I'll sit by your daddy." I say.
She gives me a nod and holds her arms up. I of course pick her up and carry her down the hall to Wilmer and I's room. I put Ariana on the bed first before I get into the bed and sit next to Wilmer and let her get situated next to me. Her body is as close to me as she can possibly get and I rub her back in an effort to get her back to sleep. And to no surprise it isn't long before she's asleep.
"She's sick?" Wilmer asks.
"I think it's just allergies. She's had that runny nose for a few days now, she may have a sinus infection now though. I've given her some Tylenol to bring the fever down. But she didn't seem to have a runny nose today so I left the Benadryl alone." I say.
He nods and I run my fingers through Ariana's hair, "She looks a lot like you Wilmer." I comment.
"Does she? I don't see it." He says.
"Mhm. Her eyes, ears, nose, smile, her skin tone, but even personality wise she's so much like you. She can be silly but also so serious at the same time. Really caring and compassionate as well. You weren't here yesterday but I was outside with her on patio and letting her draw with some chalk and she saw this bird and looked at me with these sad eyes. I couldn't figure out what she was wanting until I have her my cookie. Well she tossed it and let the bird take it and then gave a big smile. She's got a big heart and I think she really loves animals, all animals." I say.
He looks at Ariana who's got her head into my hip and arms by my things and curled up in a little ball next to me and smiles, "now that you pointed it out, I can see it." He says.
I keep my stare on him as I run my fingers through Ariana's hair, "She's such a sweet girl." I say.
"She is." He agrees.
"I know the event is pretty far away, but when she moves out, I'm going to be crying like a baby." I say.
Wilmer chuckles, "You and I both. Maybe you more than me because I'm going to try and hold myself together. But I will defiantly be letting a few tears out."
Ariana may not be my biological daughter, or her view me as her real mother, but I love this child more than I can express. I have already grown so attached to her and I know that when she leaves it's going to be hard. She's my baby now and I don't think I'll ever be ready for when she leaves this house. Ever.
