Cindi's POV

The homecoming that was coming up was all the students were talking about. Some had dates, others didn't. Veronica was going with Phil. Joshua has been avoiding me since Tuesday. Whenever I ask him what's wrong, he said that nothing was wrong and I was just being nosy as usual. I asked Veronica what was wrong, and she told me maybe he was upset at something or someone. I even told her he's been reading my messages but not answering and he always declines my calls.

I have the 5th period with him and we sit together. I was going to ask him what was bothering him. I entered the classroom as soon as the bell rung. I sat in my seat and waited for the lesson to begin. Mr. Smith started speaking, and I just dozed off. I waited a few seconds for Joshua to come in. Every time I heard the door, I sprung my head looking if that was him.

He never came. He never showed up to any classes. At this point, I was really pissed off. I asked some girl he used to be friends with, and she told me he never came to school and that he wasn't coming. I was confused as to why he didn't want to come to school. Did I do something? I met up with Veronica before school was over.

"V, drive me to Joshua's house. Now." I demanded and she replied, "Alright, let's go." We sped off to the exit and got into her car. "Joshua never came?"
"Nope," I replied a bit saddened. Veronica rubbed my back in circles. I gave her the directions to his house, so we arrived there in no time. "Alright, you stay in the car I go inside.'' She nodded her head and I walked up to his mansion and knocked on the door.

A few seconds later, Joshua's younger brother opened the door. "Hi, is Joshua here?" I asked politely. He was very short so I had to look down to talk to him. "Yeah, why? Who are you?" He asked rudely. "I'm his girlfriend, may I come in?" He moved aside and I walked into his household.

"Where is he?"
"Upstairs, door to your right." I began walking until he made me stop dead into my tracks.
"And, he's not alone." I didn't know what he met. Maybe he was hanging with friends? I shrugged the feeling and went up the long stairs.

I made it to the top and heard noises. More like moans and grunting. I heard the bed rumble, squeak, and shake repeatedly. No, it can't be. Tears began to tell up in my eyes. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry. It's not what you think I kept on repeating to myself. I peeked through the door and saw some girl on top of Joshua and they were having "fun" I ran downstairs, almost tripped and ran out of the door.

I ran to Veronica's car, "Drive!" I yelled, tears were streaming down my face and my voice was cracking. ''Didi, what happened?" She asked, concerned.

"J-Joshua, h-he..."

"He what?"
"He is having sex with another girl," I replied. At this point, I was having a mental breakdown. I let the tears fall down my face. My mascara was dripping, my lipstick was smudged, and my hair started frizzing.

"Aww, best friend, I'm sorry," She comforted me, "If you want, I can beat his ass for you?"
"No, no, it's fine. Cancel my order for the homecoming dress! I'm not going anymore."
"What? Why? You have to! You can't let one stupid boy ruin the time of your life. If you want, I won't go with Phil anymore. I'm sure he'll understand."

"No, I can't do that to you, either. You can't ruin your night because of me. Go. Forget about me. I'll be fine."

"You sure?"

"Yes,"

She dropped me off home and I took my backpack from the back seat and slowly entered my house. Thankfully, my dad wasn't here. I dragged my bag up the stairs and threw it at the wall. I laid on my bed, crying very hard. My phone buzzed and I realized it was a message from Jamie.

Jamie:  Hi, can I come over so we can do the project?

Me: Sure. *gives address*

Jamie: Okay, be there in a few.

I ran to my closet, taking out the cutest outfit I could find. I ran into my bathroom and showered, I washed my hair, did my makeup, and lotioned my body. I dried my hair and did my makeup.

I looked at my self one last time, finally deciding I looked perfect. I peeked in the window and saw him get out of his car. This time, he didn't have his glasses on. Like I said, he looks WAY hotter without them.

I ran downstairs, and fixed myself and opened the door. "Hey, Jamie," I greeted. "Hi, Cindi." His voice didn't sound nervous. In fact, it sounded confident. "Ready to start?" He asked and I said, "Actually, I was thinking we can get supplies and snacks at the store."

"Oh, okay." I smiled and walked upstairs to get my jacket and purse. I walked downstairs and saw him smiling at me. He opened the door for me and I mumbled a 'thank you' to him and went inside of his car.

"What do we need for the project?" He asked me, while he focused on the road. "A poster board, paper, markers, crayons, and glue. And for snacks, you may choose whatever you like."

He nodded his head and we arrived go the store, since it was only 2 minutes away. We walked in, I took all the things we needed as Jamie chose the snacks.

I saw him in the snack aisle and I approached him. "What you got?" I asked and he said, "Doritos, sprite, Oreos, and peanut butter crackers." I nodded my head in approval as we waited in line.

"For the family tree, I was thinking maybe we can draw and label all our family members and have them connect." He recommended. "Not a bad idea, actually," I said and he bit his lip in a smile.

"Next in line, please!" An old lady announced. We proceeded and placed the stuff down. "How are you guys, today?" She asked politely.

"Good, and you?" Jamie replied. "I'm fine," she continued to checkout. "Your total is, $17.57." I was going take out my wallet until, Jamie had already paid. "What a nice gentleman. He's a keeper." The lady told me and I chuckled looking at him.

"Thank you." I told Jamie, as we walked out of the store. "Your welcome." We got into the car and drove in comfortable silence.

We got back home and started working on the project. "So, heard about homecoming on Friday," Jamie said and my mood immediately changed. "Yeah, and I'm not going." I told him and he had a shocked impression.

"Why not? If you don't mind me asking."
"Well, my 'boyfriend' cheated on me, and I had a feeling since he was being so distant. He'd read my messages, ignore my calls, and always skip class. So today, I stopped by his house to see what was the problem, and his little brother told me he wasn't alone. I thought he meant that he could be playing video games or hanging with friends, but him and another girl were having sex."

Jamie said this catching me off guard, "I'll be your date to homecoming." I stopped in my tracks. "Oh, no, Jamie you don't have to-"
"But I want to. Cindi, I get nervous every time I'm around you. I don't know if you can tell or not, I always stutter, have sweaty palms, and my heartbeat quickens. This may sound creepy, but ever since I saw you, I have been watching you. Cindi, I want to be more than friends. I don't care if we just met."

At that moment, he took my hand and I had tears in my eyes. "Cindi, will you be my date to homecoming?"
