Chapter 16

   Fireteam KZ00 sat in their Pelican, having just been given a new mission. All of them were sitting in their seats but this time, Dr. Larson was sitting in the ship with them. "Finally! I get to see what it's like on the field!" She said clapping her hands together smiling brightly. "Hey now doctor, remember, we are only bringing you along to help find any scraps we could use to repair that ship. Nothing more." Aloe said petting her Watcher. "But hey, stick by me and it'll be like you're not even in battle." Shepard said hooking a few extra grenades to his belt.
   As the Pelican took off they could already see dog fighting going on below. Joseph scanned the area finding a spot he could slip through without having to be caught in the middle of it all. As he did however, a stray bullet had hit a jet. Joseph struggled to gain control again before pulling up trying his best to land the Pelican with doing as little damage to it as possible. The Pelican hit the ground rather hard skidding to a stop, light smoke comming off from it. "Fuck, now that was fun!" Joseph laughed as the other Spartans slowly let go of the sides of their seats. "Everyone okay?" Aloe looked around as everyone nodded. "Doctor?" Larson looked over and nodded. "Yes, yes, I'm fine. I'm starting to regret this now though." She slowly got up as the others stood up too. "Well theres no backing out now honey, that's how it is" Shepard said putting his grenade launcher on his back. Dr. Larson sighed and took her pistol falling behind Alex, Shepard, and Aloe. "So we landed quite a way aways from our destination." Joseph slowly got up grabbing his carbine rifle. "So we gotta walk there, and find a new ride home. The Pelican didnt take that stray shot all too well." He groaned as he walked to them. "Lets hope thats the only inconvenience we have today." Aloe said loading her scattershot walking to the hatch. "You're saying it like someones gonna die, I highly doubt any of us can get fucking killed." Joseph chuckled as the Spartans aimed their guns to the opening. "Alright, enough talk, we got a battle to win" Aloe said as she pushed the button to let down the hatch. "Fire team KZ00, the light is green."

   As the Spartans finally made it to a small Marine base they motioned the doctor to go take cover. Shepard shooting down a Banshee and Aloe blasting away a Hunter that had hunted them down. "Finally, we made it!" Alex said running over to a group of Marines. "Don't get comfortable kid, we gotta get back into the action." Shepard said walking over pulling out his SMG. Aloe nodded and reloaded her scattershot. "He's right, Joseph, go find a Pelican so when this is done we can leave!" Joseph nodded and put his carbine on his back running off. "Now we will go out and help stop this advance. All we got to do is make them retreat so no fancy lights. That means you Shepard." Shepard shrugged and chuckled as Aloe jumped over some sandbags. "Alright, lets move out"
   As Joseph was running around the camp he spotted a stray Pelican that seemed to have been left a little bit away from the base. "Bingo! And she looks so brand new too" Joseph ran to the ship before it started up slowly lifting itself. "What the fuck? I didnt see any Marines around here" Joseph looked around before the Pelican turned to face him, inside was an Elite but its armor was not purple like the covenants, its was gray and red, its armor looking rather older than that of the covenants. "Hey, what the fuck. Hey!" Joseph jumped out of the way as the Elite began shooting at him. When Joseph got out of the way the Elite began flying off. "Oh no you don't." Joseph aimed his rifle at the cockpit firing causing the Pelican to wobble and crash into the ground. Where it landed however was in the middle of crossfire. "Holy shit, I actually hit the fucker." He stood up and chuckled. "But, he had to crash land there of all places huh?" He sighed before running off to try and get the Pelican back.

   As the rest of the fire team was fighting the covenant slowly began retreating. Aloe put her scattershot on her shoulder. "Easy see, nothing we couldn't handle." Shepard reloaded his launcher and nodded. "Of course, especially when I got your back sister." As the two were ready to start heading back Alex came over coms. "Not to ruin your guys' party, but I don't think theyre retreating because of us." Aloe and Shepard shrugged before looking up to the sky. As they did there was different colored banshees flying around shooting down any covenant banshees trying to flee. "What the, fire team KZ00, we need to retreat!" Aloe said before pushing Shepard to get him to start running. As they did two Blisterbacks had fallen onto the ground around the UNSC base, rockets began flying into it causing Aloe and Shepard to skid to a stop. Aloe almost began running towards it before Alex and Dr. Larson ran out. "What the fuck are those things!?" Alex said holding Larson close to him. "Fuck if I know! Joseph, where the fuck are you!?" Aloe turned to look around for any signs of him. "You guys might hate me, but the Pelican is between the two beetle looking things. I cant launch over to get you or I'll be targeted. You guys gotta get to me so I can fly us outta here." Aloe groaned and put her gun on her back. "You guys heard the man. Double time it!" Aloe started running with Shepard following behind. Alex holding Dr. Larson's hand to pull her along with him.
   Shepard was first to board the ship, then Aloe who had shot away a few brutes to keep a path clear. As Alex was running with Larson a small explosion caused them to separate. Alex continued running sliding onto the Pelican. "And the Doctor!?" Aloe said before Alex turned and watched Larson frozen in place before calling out. "Hurry! We gotta go!" She shook her head and slowly started running again. Before she could get close to the Pelican a stray bullet from a Spiker had bounced off the landing gear into her leg. Larson gasped as she fell over looking up to the yellow and cyan spartans in front of her. Before she could speak a beam shot went through her head, her glasses falling to the ground with the shot, and then, her body followed down. Before Alex or Aloe could jump off the ship to get her the hatch had closed and Joseph took off, flying through the sky to dodge every incoming projectile he could. Shepard turned around and looked around. "Is everybody...guys, where's the doctor?" Alex and Aloe stood silently still by the hatch before both slowly looked down. "Guys?" Shepard asked in a softer tone slowly walking up.
