Scourge forced himself to wait until he was sure the majority of, if not all the bees, were gone, before jumping out of the tree. He landed with a soft thud next to the empty nest. He smiled when the scent of honey hit his nose. He took a lick to reward himself for a job well done, and picked up a chunk of it. He dashed away, leaving ShadowClan territory behind.

It was way past dark as Scourge made it to the cave. His breath was raspy and he was struggling to breathe, but he'd made it. "Ashfur!" He rasped, panting, as he came into the mouth of the cave.

Ashfur, having felt a little better with time, had gone hunting. There was a large mouse on the floor of the cave, and he himself was finishing up a pigeon. He looked up as the black cat entered. Scourge put the nest down. "I got you the honey you needed." Ashfur lept up and quickly started eating some of it. He sighed, raising his head back up and licking his muzzle clean.

"I can't thank you enough for this. This... This feels so good..." He closed his eyes and relaxed. When he opened them again though, they were filled with sorrow. Scourge knew he was thinking of his clan. Ashfur turned and padded towards the back of the cave. Scourge followed, scraping some dirt over the mouse to save for later. He had no appitite right now.

His heart felt as if it were going to burst with guilt for the young tom as he curled up next to him. Ashfur sniffed, tears falling from his eyes. No words need be said as Scourge licked them clean as they fell. Scourge felt tears brimming his own eyes. It seemed as if it would never stop. Scourge knew Ashfur would always miss his clan. It was where he grew up. His family and all his friends were there, and now he had to leave them behind.

He was mourning as if his entire clan had died right in front of him.

The quiet crying quickly turned to sobbing. "I miss it, Scourge... I m-miss them... So much..." He murmured, shuddering with sorrow.

"I know, I know." Scourge didn't let one of Ashfur's tears hit the ground. He whispered comforting things as Ashfur continued to mumble about his memories of his clan, his clanmates, and his family. Scourge listened silently, grooming Ashfur until he started to calm down. Ashfur cuddled up close to Scourge and Scourge groomed him until he fell asleep.

Scourge knew he'd made a horrible mistake for the young tom. It was his fault. He had told Ashfur to attack Squirrelflight. But I thought he could do it! He tried defending himself, and somehow silenced the voice of guilt for a while. He layed his head down next to Ashfur's and closed his eyes, soon falling asleep.

Scourge was the first to wake up the next morning. He looked up and saw it was nearly noon. They'd slept in long. They had to move on, but he didn't want to wake his friend. He growled softly at the word "friend". They weren't friends, but they weren't exactly mates either, so he didn't really know what they were. He needed to ask... He swallowed nervously at the thought, and he felt his pelt heat up.

He blinked as Ashfur woke, stretching and sitting up, shaking his pelt out. Scourge sat up and stretched as well, letting out a huge yawn. Ashfur was grooming the sleepiness out of his eyes when he first spoke. "...You know, that mouse was for you. It's going to attract a fox if you don't eat it."

Scourge smiled, his heart lifting with admiration. Ashfur was such a strong cat. It was as if he never broke last night. Scourge nodded and padded over to where the mouse was buried. He unburied it and sat down to eat it. Ashfur sat next to him, their sides touching. "Where do you think we should head now? Are we still going for the mountains, or...?" Ashfur voice was raspy, but strong. The honey really did a number on his throat.

Scourge leaned into Ashfur, sharing their body heat. He sighed. "Whatever you wanna do, I guess. I've never been in the mountains before, so I don't know so much about that..." He trailed off, running out of words to say.

Ashfur looked down, and stared at his paws as Scourge tore into the mouse. "What about sun drown place?"

"What?"

"We could head towards where the sun sets. I hear it's beautiful that way."

Scourge shrugged and nuzzled Ashfur's muzzle. "If that's what you wanna do, then let's do it. Are you sure you're well enough to travel?" Scourge didn't move as Ashfur simply nodded. "Then I guess we can head out as soon as I'm finished here." Scourge finished the mouse as quickly as he could, as he was certain that ThunderClan would be searching for them.

Scourge stood up and let out a glorious stretch, and shook some dirt out of his pelt. Ashfur chuckled. "You're a mess..." He whispered, licking Ashfur's face a few times before standing up himself. They both gathered their bearings and set off facing away from the sun, knowing it would set in front of them.

Scourge shivered as an early autumn breeze snuck through his pelt. They had traveled all day, and found a cave at the base of the mountains to sleep. Ashfur had gone to find some herbs for their paws, rubbed raw from the walk. Scourge glanced out of the mouth of the cave, watching the last of daylight drown behind the horizon. He sighed, picking up his paw to lap at it again. He grabbed a splinter in between his teeth and pulled slowly, hissing through clenched teeth. He got it out and spat it on the ground outside, licking up the tiny amount of blood that followed.

It wasn't long after that, Ashfur padded into the small cave. He dropped a mouthful of herbs at his feet. "I have no idea if these are the right ones, but I grabbed them. I hope they're right..." He trailed off as Scourge looked through them.

Scourge brightened up. Ashfur'd grabbed the perfect herbs. Coltsfoot for their pads, daisy leaf and chamomile for strength, and he even grabbed a little bit of honey to help the traveling herbs to go down. He probably would have leapt for joy, if he wasn't so tired. He scooted over to Ashfur and rubbed his chest with his cheek. "They're perfect. Thank you." He said, purring loudly.

Ashfur blinked but purred in response, giving Scourge's ear a quick lick. Scourge didn't understand why, but that one swift movement sent shivers through his entire body. Ashfur purred, Scourge blushing in emberassment.

"Aw come on, there's no need to be afraid." Ashfur meowed in Scourge's ear.

"I'm not afraid." Scourge was happy to hear his voice was strong.

Ashfur just shook his head slightly. Scourge bent down and grabbed the coltsfoot leaves and chewed them. He lied down and licked them into his pads, the cooling sensation making him shiver. He fell over all the way, closing his eyes while the coltsfoot went to work. He could hear Ashfur repeating his actions. The quiet crunching of the leaves, the licking, the sigh of relief. Ashfur shifted over to Scourge and lay next to him, close, and purred happily.

"I know you aren't asleep... But you're going to pretend you are. I wanted to say something, Scourge." Scourge's heart started beating fast. He was grateful to Ashfur already for the way this was going. "I wanted to say that since we met, I've grown accutomed to you. Like, I've totally memorized your body movements and sounds, I can tell when you're upset even when no one else, maybe not even you can. I feel so in sync with you. I can feel it in my heart, and in my body, my soul. I am meant to be with you, Scourge."

Ashfur trailed off, most likely looking for more words to say. "I guess what I'm trying to say is... I want to be your mate." Scourge couldn't help the giant smile that came onto his face. He forced himself to stay quiet and still as Ashfur went on. "...And since I know you're awake and listening to me... I'm going to give you the choice."

"If I wake up tomorrow and you aren't next to me, I'll assume you left and said no. But if you're there, I'll take that as a yes. Flick your ear if you understand me, Scourge."

Scourge gave a flick of his ear and dozed off next to his mate. He would not move from that spot no matter what, he vowed.
