Scourge found himself in a field. It was beautiful, full of flowers. He tried to run forward, but his paws were awkwardly big and he stumbled. He heard a jingle, and realized that he was wearing his collar, and it still had the bell on it, from his kittenhood. He slowly realized that he was a kit again. Had his entire life been a dream..? He shook the idea from his head and he decided to walk. He carefully chose a direction and started wobbling that way. The jingle of his collar annoyed him but he soon forgot about it. His heart started to race.
The grass ahead of him started to die away, and it got dark. He couldn’t see a tail-length in either direction eventually. He tried not to panic as he continued to walk forward. There were eyes in the darkness ahead. Two gold and a pair of blue ones. Scourge squinted. He recalled the smells and the darkness fell away, revealing the Thunderclan forest. Tigerpaw was in front of him. He growled in hatred and lunged at him, but he was just a mirage and faded away as Scourge got to him.
The darkness came back. Scourge swallowed. What’s happening? What happened before now…? I… I don’t remember… He let the thoughts run through his head as he started to walk forward. He found it easier and easier to walk as he got bigger. The bell dropped off the collar, and a tooth replaced it. Scourge blinked. Am I… Reliving my life? The darkness fell away again and he was in the city. He heart leapt when he saw Ice, alive and well. He ran up to him to talk to him, but he realized quickly it was no good. He refused to believe he was invisible to his old friend. “Ice! Ice, c’mon, you must be able to hear me!?” Scourge’s voice rose higher and higher, until he was almost screaming at his old friend. “Ice! Come on, look at me! Just… Look, I’m right here. Don’t eat the mice! Ice, do you hear me, do not eat the damn mice!” Scourge’s eyes filled with tears, and he turned away, running down the street. The darkness came back.
Eventually, his collar fell away, and Scourge smiled with happiness. Ashfur? He saw piercing blue eyes, filled with worry. Scourge realized he couldn’t move, and the darkness was swallowing him. Slowly, his paws, his legs, his belly, tail, sides, shoulders, back, neck, and finally the darkness swallowed him whole.
He couldn’t see anything, but he could still hear. The hearing was broken, however, and at first he could only catch a few things. “-urge! …-an you.. me?!... Scourge!?” He slowly recognized his mates voice and fought harder to hear what he was saying. He could barely see sunlight peeking through. HIs body felt heavy, but he could tell he was laying down. He suddenly coughed, hacking up several mouthfuls of water, and he jerked upward, suddenly fully aware.
“Oh, thank StarClan, Scourge, are you okay?! Can you hear me?” Scourge nodded, still coughing. Ashfur slumped his tail over Scourge’s back as Scourge trembled. “I-I’m f-f-.... f-reezing…” Ashfur was immediately at Scourge’s side, as close as he could be. Scourge trembled hard, unable to stop. He couldn’t even feel Ashfur’s warmth he was so numb.
“Wh… Where a-are we…?” He stuttered.
Ashfur grinned a little. “Sundrownplace.” Scourge felt like jumping up, but his limbs wouldn’t move. “Really…?” Ugh my voice sounds so pathetic. Ashfur just nodded to what was in front of them. Scourge blinked, his limbs moving finally. He numbly made his way towards the water. The ground underneath him got soft, and it hurt his pads a little, but he ignored it, eyes focused on the setting sun.
“...It’s so beautiful…” He murmured.
