Scourge woke, blinking sleepiness from his eyes. He yawned and stretched, padding out of the bush and lapping up some water. He slayed his paws, stretching the muscles in them. They weren’t exactly sore, more like tight. He still felt tired, but not tired enough to go back to sleep. He laid himself back down next to Ashfur and groomed his thick, soft fur. He purred soothingly when Ashfur stirred. Ashfur chuckled quietly.

“What, am I that dirty?”

Scourge paused. “I don’t know, you’re pretty dirty.” He said, blushing.

He felt Ashfur’s pelt heat up. “Oh really?” He got up and shoved Scourge over, straddling him. “You haven’t seen anything yet.” He whispered into Scourge’s ear quietly, making Scourge shiver. Ashfur backed up. “Well then, you hungry?”

Scourge blinked, sat up, and groomed himself to try and hide his blush. He was starting to get frustrated with how Ashfur just kept doing that. He’d get Scourge all wound up, and then just back off and act like nothing happened. He’s using a different tactic. Scourge smiled. He’s trying to lure me into it. Well, Ashfur… It’s working.

Scourge shook out his pelt after eating the mouse he caught. “...I miss my teeth and claws,” He said, sharpening his bare claws on the tiny bones left. Ashfur blinked.

“I’m sorry.”

“Damned Firestar.” Scourge growled.

Ashfur scooted over and licked Scourge’s cheek comfortingly. “Hey, it’s okay. I’m here for you. We can start gathering some, if you’d like. Or… If you think you could find them, we could head back to ThunderCl-”

“No! No no no no no! I’m not going back there, ever again!” Scourge had stood up in his protest. “I was treated like a prisoner, Ashfur. What if I were caught? Plus the fire, the- the fire probably burned everything left behind.”

Ashfur looked shocked. “I-I’m sorry, it was just a suggestion, you don’t have to yell.” He growled. Scourge sighed.

“I know. I’m sorry, I’m just… I feel so weird without them. I have this whole time. You know when I took my collar off? I almost passed out, because I’ve never had it off like that before, and knowing that I was never going to put it on again hurt…”

Ashfur sat next to Scourge, sharing warmth. “I know babe…” Scourge squeezed his eyes shut and tried to imaginee his collar around his neck. Ashfur licked Scourge’s cheek a few times, trying to comfort him.

“I should never have taken them off…”

Ashfur remained silent as Scourge stood up and padded out of the tree. “I’m gonna go hunting. I’ll be back in a bit.” Ashfur nodded and Scourge padded away.

Scourge didn’t go far when he caught sight of a mouse. He crouched down and crept closer, trying to remain silent. Scourge heard a wail come out of the forest but he ignored it, eyes set on the mouse. The mouse lifted its head just as Scourge pounced. Scourge killed it quickly. The wail came again. Scourge’s heart dropped like a stone. He dropped the mouse and sprinted over to the tree where they had spent the night. Ashfur had climbed the tree and was looking down, fur spiked. Foxes. Scourge narrowed his eyes. There were three of them. Scourge looked up at Ashfur and they made eye contact for a second, and then Ashfur jumped down onto the head of one of the foxes. Scourge leapt onto the shoulders of another, and the fox started bucking wildly, trying to throw him off as he sank his claws into its red fur. He bit down on the nape of its neck but only got a mouthful of the thick fur. He spat it out and climbed forward a little more, trying to claw the fox’s eyes.

He was suddenly lifted off the fox’s back as the third of the foxes grabbed him by the tail and dragged him off. Scourge let out a shriek of pain and turned on the third fox, clawing its nose. Ashfur had sent the first fox running and was now fighting next to Scourge, back to back. They swiped out at the foxes, pushing them farther and farther back. Scourge remembered that there had been a gorge not far from the tree they were at. “Ashfur! The gorge!” He yowled above the fighting. Ashfur nodded and swiped at his fox with more ferocity, backing it up several tail lengths until he came to the gorge. The fox realized what he was doing and jumped to the side and fled, leaving Ashfur at the edge of the gorge with very little balance. Scourge left his fox and dashed over, grabbing Ashfur by the scruff and trying to haul him over.

This failed, however, and the ground beneath him gave way. He held his breath and braced himself for the turbulent waters below. He hit several rock cliffs on the way down, failing to hook onto any of them, and his body was thrown into the water. He lost sight of Ashfur as the black water forced his eyes closed. It was cold, and his limbs were already growing numb. He couldn’t tell which way was up or down. He swam in a direction, hoping with all his might that it was up. It was. His head bobbed up out of the water and he gasped for air. He looked over to the side and saw Ashfur running on the bank of the gorge. He had obviously had better luck. This was only a moment, and Scourge’s head was sent back under by a large wave. He didn’t have a breath this time, however, and his lungs started to fill up with water. Scourge tried not to breathe in any more, but he couldn’t stop his body’s reflexes as he breathed in deep. The water burned his nose, and his limbs were getting more and more heavy by the second. I’m not gonna make it! Oh, Ashfur, please… Help…

He limbs would not cooperate with him anymore, and he let the water carry him. It was actually quite soothing. The water had begun to feel good in his pelt, and he felt calm. He closed his eyes, and soon lost consciousness.

This one’s shorter than usual but… There was more action, so >:3
