"I still don't get the point of this," Lorcan wondered out loud.

"I need to make sure they're still there," Aelin replied.

Rowan kept his hand on her back as she started barely shaking.

It was this place that Aelin had decided to sacrifice herself instead of Dorian. The place where she miraculously tricked the King of Adarlan into staying.

Endovier's gates creaked open as the Queen of Terrasen stepped inside.

The day she offered herself, she wasn't able to take in her surroundings, but today.

It hit her before her task came to light.

The dungeon where the weeks in pitch black darkness were spent were now eerily calm. It still haunts her to this day, the dark, and each time there's a candle by the dresser to light it up.

The whipping posts where the lashes reverberated through her very soul. But as she looked down on her wrists, the rope burn scars were no where to be found.

Before she knew it, Rowan had led her right to the platform where she and the man who saved her from Endovier walked into the other side together.

And where Aelin pushed him back out.

"We'll search the area," Lorcan said firmly but respectively.

The man had decided to honor the oath to Aelin for all she had done for his wife back in Perranth. So when Rowan called, he did not hesitate.

Aelin walked around the area that she knew too well.

Nothing.

No presence, no other worldly feeling.

"All clear," Fenrys said. Lorcan followed him and mumbled an agreement.

Aelin's turquoise eyes rounded the place again.

Rowan walked up behind Aelin, making sure she knew he was there.

"We should go," He said to Aelin.

She nodded in agreement.

But as they walked out the door she could've sworn a voice whispered in the back of her mind,

Fireheart, she's coming.
