Oh shit, thought Jac. I'm not ready to tell him I love him yet. I'm only just getting used to the idea myself.
"Erm well. What exactly did you hear"
"I heard something very interesting"
"What? How long were you standing there?"
"Oh long enough"
"Fletch!"
Fletch smiled at her fumbling and embarrassed blushes. He could really drag this out but he could not be that cruel and he couldn't wait a moment longer to tell her
He laughed softly "I love you too Jac. I love you too"
She released a breathe she didn't even know she was holding.
"Fletcher you absolute arse" but she was laughing "I wasn't ready to tell you that yet"
"Erm tell me what?" He said dodging a tissue box that she had launched at his head
"I love you alright? Satisfied?"
"I told you whilst you were still unconscious"
"Coward"
"Oh come on , telling Jac Naylor that you love her. When she's conscious."
"Am i that scary?"
"No sweetheart just scared not scary"
She was overwhelmed by her strength of her feelings for this man currently eating the grapes that he had brought.
"Stop eating my grapes Fletch" pretending to be cross
"Oh you always say that" he batted her hand away
"How're the kids?"
Jac had finally agreed that with Jonny away it made sense for anyone that was looking after their children for them all to be in one place and so Emma had moved in with the Fletchers.
She was going to be discharged to a ready made family which felt strange
She had given Fletch a list of what to buy for Emma and his children like she had her own personal shopper. Jac hated Christmas shopping.
Fletch would bring the kids every now and then and so it was that they all arrived on Christmas Eve.
Jac had been so excited all day. She had Sacha bring her some nice clothes in, she had proved to the physio and her medical team that she was fit to leave.
At visiting time, Jac made sure she was hiding down the ward in order to surprise them all.
Fletch opened the door to her room to find it empty, bed made for the next patient.
"Stay here" he told everyone "I'll find out what's happened" his heart was pounding in his chest. Was she back in theatre, had she had a relapse, was she dead? Thoughts racing round in his mind. He was making his way to the office when he heard his name
"Fletch"
He turned to see Jac walking confidently towards him. Smart tailored ankle grazer trousers with her Doc marten shoes, a fitted blouse with floaty sleeves, hair and make up freshly done.
"Jac" he said struggling to take it all in
"Hi" she said as she reached him
"You're walking"
"10 out of 10 for observation Fletcher"
"But you're... but how...when"
"Sshh" she placed her fingers on his lips and then reached up and pulled him in for a lingering kiss
"Take me home Fletch. I'm discharged today?"
"Really. Oh my god that is amazing. And you've known this for how long?"
"About a week" she said sheepishly "I wanted to surprise you"
He hugged her "well you certainly did that. I nearly had a heart attack when I went into your room and it was empty. Everyone's waiting in there now"
"Sorry. I was so excited to surprise you I didn't think"
"It's fine. You're fine. You're coming back to my house aren't you?"
"Well I'm guessing all Emma's stuff and presents are there so yes but after Christmas we need to have a think about things"
He put his arm round her and they walked to the side room
"Look who I found walking down the ward"
"Mummy" shouted Emma "you can walk" She made to run at Jac to hug her
"be gentle darling" Fletch said quietly. Emma slowed down and hugged her mother carefully. He caught Jac's eye over the top of Emma's head and gave her a reassuring smile
The others were also pleased to see she was up and about. Maybe dad would stop going on about her so much. Yeah probably not
"So we have 3 special guests for Christmas kids -Emma, Sacha and Jac
"Awesome" announced Mikey echoing all their thoughts
