Ch. 9 Part 1 Kyle’s POV

We just pulled up in front of this giant home. It was ridiculously hot and this place was stupid beautiful. The home was massive two stories sprawled out along land. There was a dirt road up to the house with giant willows on either side creating some shade. There was a roundabout and at the center was a beautiful fountain and flowers all around it.

The house was painted white and had a wraparound porch on the first story large columns spaced on the porch supported the canopy that was over the front porch. The grass was green and mowed there was a rose garden around the massive house. I looked over at Char in our rental car and I could see her staring up at the house taking big breaths.

The home was obviously old, maybe civil war old. There were large windows everywhere; the curtains were closed over the windows to prevent any more heat from entering the home. Char opened the car door and I followed suit suddenly nervous.

I had asked Maggie to ship the ring to me as expedited as possible and it had arrived sealed in a small box with perfect timing. It was special to me because it was Krista’s family ring, and she had given it to me to give to a special woman. I had forgotten about it but I thought that it would look beautiful on Charlotte, and it did.

The titanium band was slender with a large flawless colorless diamond at the center, a slim halo around the diamond was inlaid with many more smaller diamonds. It was a beautiful ring and I couldn’t be happier to see it on Charlotte’s hand. I held out my hand to her and she grasped it intertwining our fingers.

We walked side by side up the large steps of the home and the porch creaked lightly beneath our weight. There was a knocker on the door, a rather beautiful one and Charlotte banged with it on the door twice. We waited a moment and I was watching Charlotte who was shifting nervously. She had really taken some time today to get ready, she was wearing a beautiful summer dress. It was a light blue cotton dress that really complemented her. I was in khakis and a white button up. The door opened up to reveal a woman dressed in white slacks and a silk tank top. Her hair was a white blonde and her face was aged, but you could see clearly glistening green eyes. When they landed on her nervous daughter, her eyes widened.

“John! John!! Our Baby!” Ada yelled, her accent was strong and I dropped Char’s hand as Ada ran to hug her daughter. Not a moment later from inside the giant home came rushing to the front porch the whole entire family. I felt my eyes widen in surprise as there was greetings everywhere.

“Charlotte!”

               “Baby girl!”

“Char!!”

               “Welcome home!”

I couldn’t figure these people because the family had obviously grown. There were younger children running about eager to see the commotion and the group was larger than eight. I tried to get a glimpse of Charlotte but I couldn’t find her through the blonde haired group. The group broke apart a few minutes later and I smiled seeing Charlotte so happy. She turned back to glance at me and I smiled widely at her and she blushed. She reached out to me and grabbed my hand intertwining our fingers and bringing me into the group. I sure earned a lot of stares from the family. Ada was wiping tears and smiling brighter than the sun.

“Ma, Daddy. This is my fiancé Kyle Aiden Lambert.” She said her southern accent peeking through and I smiled at the shocked group.

“Hello.” I spoke and Ada smiled at me waving her hands.

“That’s not how we greet family around here sugar.” She said and came forward hugging me and I hugged her gently back as she kissed my cheek. I smiled at her and John came to me and held out his hand shaking mine before pulling me into a rough hug patting my back.
