It was late when they trudged out, the adults and Ming were drunk although Beam doesn't remember seeing Ming drink anything other than coke but the way he's singing and clinging to Kit, Ming is probably the most drunk there.
They head out to the car and Beam hears Forth curse loudly.
"SHIT! I'm drunk! How do we get home?" Before Forth could really start panicking or call a cab Kit spoke up, "I'll do it."
"Wait! Do you even have a license?"
"I have a permit so it's alright as long as you're in the passenger seat." Kit didn't wait for a reply as he grabbed the keys from Forth's hand and slid into the driver's seat.
After a moment of contemplation Forth directed everyone towards the car and slid into the passenger seat. Beam followed Wayo and Phana to the back seat but was pushed out once Kit started the engine. Wayo suddenly got out himself and opened the door to the passenger seat before pushing Beam in.
"Forth he is YOUR responsibility! No space at back!!"
Wayo quickly settled back into his seat and Kit started driving with an impatient, "Finally!" before Forth could protest.
That is how he found himself smooshed in the front seat with Forth who tried moving further away but that just ended up in them brushing awkwardly against each other until Beam's head was pushed uncomfortaly against the window and his legs propped at weird angles on Forth's lap.
Suddenly Ming giggled from the back, "Why are you squeezing with Forth over there when there's plenty of space back here?"
Beam strained his neck to look back and there really was Wayo sitting on Phana's lap squeezed into a corner with Ming bouncing happily all over the empty space in tune with the jerks of the car. Damn Wayo! No wonder Forth always regarded that guy with apprehension.
He wondered if he could get up now and crawl over to the back. But it was possible to extract his legs from where they were tangled with Forth's and stopping in the middle of the highway was out of the question. With a resigned sigh Beam tried to settle comfortable where he was. Hey, Forth wasn't all that bad, he was kinda warm too and was looking the other way so there were no scopes of any awkward situation arising.
Finally they made it back with Kit and Ming deciding to walk the rest of the distance and Wayo and Phana disappearing as soon as the car stopped. Beam walked into his apartment tired and happy.
His? For a moment he had forgotten and for that moment he felt like he was home, like in a happy place with a feeling of companionship or maybe even love, that might be exaggerating but Beam has never felt belonging after his mother had passed away. In that same moment he caught sight of Forth locking up the door, the said owner of this home.
Somehow the thought evoked an eerily warm surge of emotions throughout him and he suddenly felt much more affectionate.
He bounded up to Forth and threw his arms around the latter's neck,
"Thank you! Thank you for everything! I was really happy today!" Beam felt like expressing himself, "And you were really nice and I might have even made friends today! Thanks a lot P'Forth! When I leave I will definitely miss you!"
All this while Beam felt Forth go all tense.
"Oi you need to respect people's personal space." Forth whispered softly before Beam felt a pair of arms close around his waist.
Forth kept his arms around him, resting his head on top of Beam's shoulder and stayed like that, not noticing in his stupor how frigid the boy had gone.
