And Forth strutted into the appointment opening the door wide open for none other than Nien. For some reason or other Beam's blood boiled at a temperature that could save a lot of cooking gas for them if conjured at other times.
They stopped short when they found Beam fuming in the hallway. Well at least they didn't know he was fuming since it was dark.
"Oh Beam you're awake. You must remember Nie..."
"You're late." Beam cut him off.
"Yeah sorry about that, we forgot the time really."
"You didn't call."
"Uhh...sorry?"
"Whatever. We have guests so you can't fool around here."
"What, who?"
"Whoever it is it's not appropriate."
"But we just wanted coffee."
"Yeah. Sure. Coffee."
They couldn't see Beam narrowing his eyes but they caught him leaving in a huff."
"Uh. Maybe some other time okay Forth?" Nien smiled before taking leave.
Forth shook his head in disbelief and headed for the door behind which Beam just disappeared.
"What the hell is WRONG with you?"Those were the first words to leave his mouth when he'd stormed into the room.
Beam sat down on the couch, pulled a pillow into his lap and flicked the television on. Almost like Forth hadn't spoken at all.
"Oi! I'm talking to you!"
Beam's response was to turn the volume up.
Honestly.
Beam could be such a brat sometimes.
Forth strode over to the tv and mute the volume. The sounds of 'SPARK Music Video' died, leaving them in a gaping, cold silence.
Forth turned to him slowly, watching for the boy's expression. Beam kept a straight face, brown eyes fixed on the tv screen.
"I..." Beam started, flicking away the strands of hair from his own face. Forth knew it was a sign of hesitation. Weeks spent under the same roof had made him accustomed to all of Beam's little quirks, habits and gestures. So much that he could read the boy like an open book.
Forth continued to wait... with patience which he rarely displayed.
Beam hesitated before looking him in the eye.
"I... don't want to see you with anyone."
Oops...He was hoping Forth didn't hear it.
"You what?"
Tough luck Beam.
He cringed at the incredulous tone of voice. Beam turned up the volume a little bit higher to drown out Forth's breathing, eyes trained furiously on the tv screen in front determined to not trail to Forth's face.
Only it wasn't like Forth was going to give him any peace. He insisted on kneeling down in front of the sofa, facing him.
"Beam..." The voice was soft and it struck something inside of him. Beam was kind of confused these past few days about Forth, about his life in the city, about what had been happening. He did what he did next upon impulse but it only left him more confused than before.
When Beam grabbed Forth's collar, he thought it would easy to just pull him into the kiss. He's seen it happen on TV countless on time. But why was Forth's head so immobile? Seriously he couldn't move it sufficiently and only jerked on the collar a few times before deciding that if Forth would not come to him he'll go to Forth or at least his lips. So he lurched forward to grab Forth's head with both hands this time (in case it became adamant again) and pressed their lips together while falling back onto the floor from the force of his little jump.
