4.5 months later, the baby's due date came and went. Maddy's OB/GYN set up an appointment to induce Maddy if she didn't go into labor earlier. She didn't, so on the day of the induction Maddy and David were able to calmly park the car and arrive at the hospital. Was it less exciting than anticipated? Slightly. The two both felt that it was nice to not be rushing and panicking.
David and Maddy's friends all arrived at the hospital, filling their assigned waiting room. David went out to update them.
"A few more hours" He said, entering the room, and sitting on a chair.
"How excited are you?" Corinna asked.
David smiled. "Extremely"
"Are you smoking a cigar with us?" Heath asked, pulling out a box.
David furrowed his brow.
"Aren't I supposed to be the one who gives out cigars?" He asked, making the entire room laugh.
Heath shrugged.
"I knew you wouldn't, and I want an excuse to smoke a cigar"
"I'm not smoking a cigar"
"Suit yourself, baby. You having one?" Heath asked, motioning to Mr. Laurent.
Mr. Laurent looked over at Noel and Martin.
"No" He said, looking at his kids. He then looked over to Heath and covered their eyes, nodding his head yes.
The room laughed again.
"You too?" Heath asked Mr. Dobrik.
"Well, my kids are not here..." He shrugged, as his other kids were still in Chicago.
David went back to the delivery room, and 5 hours later the baby was born. She was crying and healthy, and the doctor immediately handed her to Maddy. David cried, then Maddy cried. They both stared at the baby in awe.
"What's her name?" A nurse asked.
"Cecelia" David and Maddy said at the same time, before laughing.
There was no doubt she was Cecelia. David held Cecelia before the nurses took her to the nursery for a little while. David calmly walked into the waiting room, opening the door and smiling. Everyone in the room started essentially cheering as David passed his phone with a picture of Cecelia around.
"So... what's her name?!" Liza asked.
"Cecelia"
There was another collective "awwww" around the room. 2 people at a time, David and Maddy's friends met Cecelia throughout the evening. Once everybody, including both Maddy and David's parents, had left; David and Maddy were left alone with Cecelia.
"I get what everyone means about not knowing how much you can love someone until you have your first kid" David said, holding Cecelia in his arms. "I love her so much, and I love you more than ever even though I didn't think that was possible" He looked over to Maddy, who rested her head on the pillow behind her and looked over at Cecelia in David's arms.
"Isn't it crazy?" Maddy asked.
"It is. I would literally do anything to make sure she's safe and happy and it's only been a few hours"
Maddy put her hand on David's shoulder.
"We'll give her the world" Maddy simply said.
"Yes we will"
