David booked 2 tickets to Paris a week later. He told Maddy he wanted to take her as a celebration for the lifting of the travel ban. She agreed, and gushed about how excited she was to show David the city. Since her dad was Parisian, she had been to Paris many times and knew the city well.
David had officially decided he would propose to Maddy. He facetimed his parents one night to tell them.
"Hello David" His dad said, picking up the call.
"Hey, is mom there?"
"Right here!" She called from the back.
Toby popped into the frame.
"Hi Toby" David said.
"Hi David"
"Dad, can I talk to you and mom? Maybe go to your room?"
"Uhh... okay" His dad said, as his mom followed him to their room.
"What is going on?" His mom asked.
"So... I'm going to propose to Maddy"
"Wow, seriously?" His Dad asked.
"You sound thrilled" David laughed.
"I am thrilled!"
"What do you seriously think?"
"I think it sounds like great idea" his mom said. "I really like Maddy"
He talked to his parents for about 15 more minutes, explaining everything to them before hanging up. He looked at the clock. 6:43 pm. He had asked the Laurents if he could facetime them at 7 and they had agreed. At 7 on the dot, David called them.
"Hello!" Nick and Eva said in unison as they answered.
"Hello!"
"What brings you virtually to our home tonight David?" Eva laughed.
"So i'm taking Maddy to Paris..."
"And you want to propose to her, no?" Mr. Laurent asked.
"How did you know that?!"
"David, it is the city of love, how could I not have guessed?"
David laughed.
"When Maddy told us she was going to go to Paris, we thought maybe you were going to want to propose" Mrs. Laurent said. "And then when you want to facetime... we knew"
He continued to talk to the Laurents for a few minutes before they said goodbye. That was too fucking easy. He thought.
He moved onto the next order of business, finding a ring. He knew exactly what type of ring Maddy wanted, thanks to sitting next to her while she scrolled through pinterest many times. The next day, he stealthily took a ring off of Maddy's dresser and slid it into his pocket to figure out the size at the jeweler. He returned it 3 days later after placing an order for a ring.
Is this crazy? He thought to himself as he placed the ring back in a dish. He prayed that after all of the conversations he had with Maddy about getting married that he wasn't misreading her when she said that she doesn't have a perfect time to get engaged in mind, and that as long as she knew she wanted to be with David she was content with whatever stage they were in and interpreted that as an invite to propose to her about 6 months after the comment.
He would soon find out.
