David woke up on Christmas morning to find Maddy fast asleep next to him. Typically, he would spend Christmas with his family at home. This year, he and Maddy were spending their first Christmas away from their parents together. Nearly all of their friends were in their hometowns, leaving Maddy and David with no obligations.

David got up gently and made Maddy a mug of hot chocolate. Aside from the fact that she wasn't supposed to have caffeine, she was never much of a coffee drinker in the first place. David's horrible track record with cooking led him to decide not to make breakfast, despite knowing it would be cute. He knew Maddy would understand.

He went back into their room and placed the hot chocolate on the side table next to the side of the bed Maddy was sleeping on. He sat gently next to her, tracing circles on her back until she woke up.

"Good morning" She eventually said, opening her eyes and checking the time on her phone.

"Merry Christmas" David smiled, kissing her on the cheek. "I made you hot chocolate"

"Awwww, babe" Maddy said, putting her hand on her chest. David sat next to Maddy, resting on the headboard.

"I have a small present for you" He said.

"David! We agreed on no presents!" Maddy said, looking a bit distressed.

David smiled lazily and shrugged. He reached over next to his bed and picked up a small, relatively flat, wrapped gift. Maddy opened it.

Inside was a copy of her favorite childhood book; Meet the Austins by Madeleine L'Engele. Maddy could never explain why she loved this book so much. Maybe it was because the author was also French, or maybe it was because they shared a name. Regardless, she loved it.

"What the hell, David, this is so cute! You remembered?"

"Of course I remembered" David scoffed. "Turn to page 233"

Maddy did as she was instructed. On this page was a quote highlighted. It read "Maybe that's the best part of going away for a vacation -- coming home again". Taped beneath this was a key and a note in pencil on the bottom of the page reading "Prague?" Maddy's eyes widened. Prague was the one major city in Europe that Maddy had yet to visit.

"I'm not sure how clear this is, but i'm asking if you want to go to to Prague in a few days and then move in with me"

"Yes, definitely yes"

Maddy and David spent New Year's in Prague, flying over 3 days after Christmas. Maddy ranked Prague in her top 3 European cities, and David, who had only been to his home city, Paris, and Prague, agreed. During the flight back, Maddy turned to David.

"Should we get married this week?"

David immediately laughed.

"Are you serious?"

Maddy shrugged.

"I mean, we may as well get legally married and speed up the green card and citizenship process, especially since it takes like a year to get approved for the green card. I'm not saying we get like... dream wedding married yet"

"I... fuck it's let's get married"

Maddy smiled.

"Let's do it"

Later that week, David and Maddy got married at a courthouse in Los Angeles, and began the application process for a green card. To celebrate their legal marriage and beginning of a green card application, they attended the Streamy awards that they were initially planning on blowing off, so they could go out with their friends afterwards. David was nominated for 3 awards including one for editing, one for his podcast, and creator of the year. Maddy had already won an award that was announced before the show started for a collaboration she had done with Casey.

Maddy and David sat with Casey and Candace with some other friends they vaguely knew. Although they would usually be sat with their friends, the Streamy's had requested that they change the seating arrangement relatively last minute. Maddy and David didn't mind, so they agreed.

David had lost the categories for editing and podcast before the Streamys had began, and was assuming he wouldn't win creator of the year. The thing is, he did. David, looking shocked, stood up from the chair he was in and gave Maddy a hug before kissing her. Maddy motioned that he should go on stage, and he kissed her again before going.

"Hi everyone! Um, wow, this is awesome. I want to thank everyone who voted for me and all of my friends who keep my content fresh. I also want to talk about my amazing and beautiful fiancee because that's all I ever do... Maddy, you keep me focused and driven and support every stupid idea that crosses my mind, I love you so much, you are the strongest woman I have ever met and every day I think about how lucky I am to be loved by you. You are the most beautiful, intelligent, patient, humble person in the world and everything i've achieved in the past 2 years is directly because of you. thank you!"

Maddy had her hand on her chest and was wiping a stray tear under her eye away with her other hand when David finished his speech.

"I have never heard that man articulate a sentence that well unless he's talking about you" Casey said, leaning over to Maddy.

David came back, leaning down and kissing Maddy on the cheek before sitting down.

"David, that was so sweet" Maddy said.

"It's true, all of it"
