I turned toward Matt.
“Um, Matt? I need to get something from over there.” I said, pointing towards the front of the aisle.
“Okay? We’ll go there next.” He replied, sounding confused as to why I had told him.
“Well, um, I wanted to cook a surprise dinner for you guys. The ingredient I need will give away what I want to cook for you.” I said while crossing my fingers behind my back.
Please believe me, please believe me, please believe me…
“Fine. Take Sam with you, but Bella stays with me.” He said. Shoot, he’s smart. He knows that if we were ever to escape, we would all go together. Guess we aren’t running today. I nodded in agreement, and Sammy joined me.
“How are we going to pick up that paper?” She whispered to me. I looked at her in shock. She noticed too? I guess I had been too focused on Matt to notice Sammy must’ve been staring at the girl too.
“Just follow my lead.” I hissed back.
I walked over to the meat area, passing the piece of paper, and grabbed hamburger meat. I somewhat told the truth. My mother taught me how to grill, so I was very good at making hamburgers. I will cook hamburgers for the guys tonight as a cover story. After I picked up the hamburger meat, I pretended to show it to Sammy before I ‘accidently’ dropped the package. Right on top of the paper. As I picked up the meat, I also picked up the meat; I also picked up the paper, and walked back to them. I motioned for Matt to turn away, so he wouldn’t see the meat. I slipped the paper from underneath it and quietly put it in the pocket of my coat. Sam noisily put light items on top of the meat and moved stuff around in the cart to cover the noise of me hiding the paper. But Matt thought that we were just trying to hide the ingredient. Bella was still looking for the right cheese and didn’t pay any attention to us at all.
“Trying to butter him up, huh?” Matt said as we walked over to the cashier.
“Kind of. And to tell you guys that I have accepted this place as my home,” I lied putting a tone of sweetness in my voice.
Matt barked in laughter.
“Sweetheart, I am not an idiot.” Matt said.
We went back home, and I was very impatient. I need to know what this paper says, but I can’t let anyone but Sam see. If the paper have any information to save us, help us at all, I can’t let anyone else see it. I’d probably be locked up in that room forever. We finally arrived, and I went down the hall with Bella and Sammy to our rooms. Luckily, Bella and Matt’s room was at the beginning of the hall, so they didn’t see us enter the bathroom together at the end of the hall. I locked the door and yanked the paper out of my pocket. We pressed our heads together as we both looked at the page hopefully. Three words and a signature were the only things on the page.
Help is coming.
~ The Black Angels
“That’s it?” I said. What? How does this help us at all?!!
Sam’s shoulders slump down, and she leaned against the door way. I ran a hand through my hair, disappointed. Suddenly, Sammy sat up straight again, her eyes wide.
“Wait a minute.” Sam said, as realization flickered in her eyes, “The Black Angels? That’s the vigilantes group that Brandon’s sister is in!” my eyes lit up with joy, and we enveloped each other in a hug. There si someone looking out for us!
