You know that feeling you get when you’ve been caught doing something you weren’t supposed to do? That feeling at the pit of your stomach that makes you uncomfortable from the inside out? Well that was exactly what I was feeling with my two best friends giving me the look as I was in the pool, dangerously close to a guy that I had profusely sworn to be my enemy.
“It’s not what it looks like.” I say as my face flushes.
Lana raises her eye brows as Cara grins.
“It’s actually exactly what it looks like.” Retorts Jacob as he gives them an award winning smile.
I roll my eyes and wade towards the steps to pull myself out of the pool. I walk towards the house as my two best friends trail after me giggling like maniacs. I walk into my room and straight into the closet to grab something dry to wear.
“Explain.” The two say in unison as they plop themselves on my duvet. I enter the walk in closet and begin towel drying my hair.
“Nothing happened okay.” I say in a small voice while pulling the wet clothes off my body. “We just had a bit of a situation and Jacob being the ass he is pushed me into the pull. Simple as that.”
I walk out wearing my dry clothes and see Lana trying to evaluate the situation.
“Wait. You were about to kiss him right?” Cara questions looking confused.
“Oh course, stupid!” Lana smacks her in the head.
I roll my eyes at the two.
“Don’t you guys have some Extra Mint Chocolate Chip with Fudge Surprise ice-cream that you promised to bring me?”
Lana looks at me and hands me the bucket of now melted ice-cream which I gladly take looking like a kid on Christmas.
“We need to be going.” Cara speaks as she gets up and drags Lana out the door.
I quickly scramble after them. “Wait don’t leave with alone with him.” I whine.
“I’m not that bad princess.” Speaks a deep, masculine voice from behind me.
I turn around and my jaw hits the floor. There he stands in all his sexy glory. His hair damp from just getting out of the shower, his naked torso glistening from the droplets of water and his six pack abs with V-line leading to the unknown in view of all the female population to drool over.
Holy Shit.
Lana whistles next to me and Cara looks as if she is about to faint. My cheeks heat up and I quickly suppress my blush.
“Put on a shirt.” I recover and walk past him.
I couldn’t wait to go home tomorrow.

“So how are the decorations coming?” I ask Sara, who was in charge of everything that was going to be put up in the Ball.
“Great, we’ll be set by tomorrow.” She replies as the rest of her team nods enthusiastically.
I smile as everything comes in place. I was the Chairwoman of this year’s Masquerade Ball. It was in my hands to give these seniors the last and best Ball of their high school lives. This year it was going to be extra special since it was Black and White themed, Pierce The Veil was performing and a firework show was taking place. It was all coming together and I couldn’t be prouder.
Except I didn’t have a dress… Or a date.
I mean I could go single right? I didn’t need a man to accompany me. Plus I didn’t want to be recognized on that day. It was the whole point of it been a masquerade ball. You could be someone else for a day or you could just not be yourself. I was planning for not being Sophia Soune’t for a day and just letting myself go. I didn’t want to be recognized nor did I want to recognize anyone else.
“Okay guys, that’s all for today.” I exclaim while getting up from my seat. “Keep me updated every day.” I end with a smile and exit the room.
“Sophia! Sophia! Sophia!” Cara enthusiastically repeats running towards me. “Guess what!” she shrieks.
“You passed your History test?” I say while cocking my head slightly.
“No, and I’m just going to tell you. You suck at guessing.”
“Fine.” I sighed.
“Jason asked Lana to the ball!” She screams excitedly.
Jason? He was sweet compared to his friends and he had the decency to take a girl out on a date before he shagged them.
I smile as I think of how adorable Lana and Jason would look.
“Did she say yes to him?” I question with a bit of hope in my voice.
“Let’s go find out.” Cara drags me towards the end of the hallway where Lana was taking her books out of her locker.
“Before you say anything, let me speak.” Lana proclaims as soon as she sees her pummeling towards her.
Cara and I grin sheepishly and nod our heads.
“So he was waiting for me outside of my class and came up to me as I exited the room. He made small talk and asked about how my day was and stuff. Then he pulled out a single red rose and- she pauses.
We urge her to continue. Lana takes a deep breath. “He asks me if I’ll go to the dance with him.” She finishes with a grin. We all squeal at how cute it was and gush about how good they’d look together.
It was all going great. Lana had a date to the Ball and Cara was going with her longtime boyfriend. Except I was going alone.
“We should find you a date now.” Says Cara as she notices how quiet I’ve been. In my mind I’m itching to take her up in that but a part of me just doesn’t want to bother about it.
“It’s alright. I’m fine going by myself.” I reply.
No I’m really not.
The bell rings signaling the end of the day and the three of us go our separate ways. Today I get to go back to my wonderful home and I’ll be whole again. I smile to myself as I walk to my locker to grab my bag. My thoughts are interrupted as I see a note taped on the metal door. I open it slowly and my eyes quickly scan over the words. And I’m in shock.
Will you go to the ball with me?
