The red dress to the side or on top is Lana's for the ball. It's so asdfghjkl and sexy.
I quickly hid behind the rack but I just wasn’t quick enough. I was squished in between puffy dresses and corsets when I heard a pair of footsteps walk towards me.
“Hey? Aren’t you Sophia?” Asks an oddly familiar voice. But it couldn’t be the person who I thought it was since Candace wasn’t all that nice.
“Hi..” I slowly rise to see the owner of the sickly sweet voice. And of course it was Candace and who stood next to her with a puzzled look on her face? None other than Jason himself.
“What are you two doing here?” I ask as nicely as possible. Candace actually gives me a genuine smile. “Jason was just helping me pick a dress for the ball.” But why him?
“Oh, because he is one of my good friends and we were both on our way to this side of the town.”
I can’t believe I had asked that out loud.
“Well I have to get going but I hope you enjoy my gift.” Candace speaks as she and Jason walk out of the store.
Before I could ask her about what she was talking about someone taps me on the shoulder. I turn around to see the sales girl holding the most beautiful dress I had every laid my eyes on. It was gorgeous. I couldn’t believe a dress like that actually existed. The dress was so unique yet it didn’t make you stand out too much. The gold designs were so intricately down that you could see every single detail. I stood there with my mouth open while I gawked at the beautiful dress in front of me.
“Why don’t you try it on?” suggests the girl holding the dress. I quickly nod and make my way to the velvet changing rooms. I finally put on the dress and turned to look at myself on the mirror. My jaw dropped to the floor. I looked like a completely different person. But surprised me was that the dress fit like it was made for me. It hugged all the right curves in all the right places and I just couldn’t believe it. I carefully changed out of the dress trying not to damage the work of art and rushed out the changing room to purchase it.
“Thank you for shopping with us!” Says the girl at the desk as she finishes packing the dress in a light pink box. “And don’t worry about the bill since the girl who was just here already paid it for you. Candace. So that was the gift she was talking about.
I smiled at the girl and walked out of the boutique into the warm summer air. I wasn’t one for conflict and I was glad that Candace had decided to forget about whatever grudge she had against me. I guess that there was a possibility for us to be friends. But I still needed to thank her for the dress.

“Oh mi god!” I can’t believe that you have been to France but not to Paris! Says Candace with a look of fake shock on her face. “I know right!” I usually just visit the outskirts of the city and well, I have never gotten around visiting the city of love itself.” I said smiling and then ending with a sigh.
A bystander may be like what they fuck is going on between these two? Well you, I discovered Candace’s address and went over to thank her for the gorgeous dress. One thing led to another and we ended up in a nearby café talking about France. It was strange at first but we both warmed up to each other. I found out her love of fashion designing and how Paris was her favorite place in the whole entire world. I told her that I loved to sing and that I wished to go on tour one day. She was oddly supportive and a bit too enthusiastic for my liking. But I brushed off this feeling I had since I didn’t want to be rude and interrupt her effort to be nice.
“And I’d like to apologize to you about our encounter at Jacob’s house.” She said snapping me out of my thoughts. “It’s just that used to be good friends before I moved away and I was just really glad to see him after such a long time.” I couldn’t tell if she was lying or not and if she was, she was a damn good actress.
I contemplated her statement and began. “It’s okay, and it’s not like Jacob and I have anything going on.” She blinks.
“Nothing? Not even a tiny little thing?”
What is she trying to get at? I think. “Nope, he is just an insensitive jerk that I have to live with for another month. So nothing is going one.”
“Your words say one thing but your eyes say another.”
I freeze at her words but quickly regain my composure. “Oh please, me and him? Never.” I scoff.
“Whatever you say.” She sings playfully. “But now I gotta go. My mom is expecting me at home for dinner. She’s introducing me to her new boyfriend.” She rolls her eyes.
“Please?” She asks. “I don’t think I could go through this dinner without you.”
I knew that I had an exam the next morning but I just couldn’t refuse. I finally give in and agree. Candace squeals and gives me a bone crushing hug.
“Thank you thank you thank you.” She repeats while dragging me out of the café.

“Mom, this is Sophia. Sophia this is my mom Quinn.” Introduces Candace. I stare at the women with a striking resemblance to Candace. The same dark hair and sultry eyes. Least to say, the two women were gorgeous.
“Nice to meet you.” Smiles Quinn while giving me a bone crushing hug. And of course, like mother like daughter. “Let’s all make our way into the foyer, there is someone I would like you to meet Candace.” Candace visibly rolls her eyes but shuffles along to the vintage sitting room.
We walk in and a sharp gasp is heard as Candace and I see the stranger. “What are you doing here?” Candace accuses to the man in front of her.
Wait? I’m confused. Does she know this person?
“Candace, what’s going on here?” Asks a clearly confused Quinn. “I’ll explain in a moment.” Candace replies glaring at the man who looked to handsome and young to be Quinn’s new boyfriend.
“Sophia I think it’s best if you left since this is turning into a huge family matter.” Asks Quinn in a soft voice with sympathy in her eyes. I nod quickly and glance at Candace who was shooting daggers at the dashing man.
I exited the foyer but I let my curiosity get the best of me. I just couldn’t let go of something like that so I decided to eavesdrop at their conversation. The door had been shut but I could still hear the muffled conversation.
“Lance what are you doing here?”
“You know that I told you – you were the one to –
“He is 20 years youn-
“He was the guy I-
“Lance was the one who- into my car- raped me-“
My eyes widened at that as I quickly rushed out the door. Could Candace be lying? A million thoughts ran through my head as I walked towards Jacob’s or technically my house. It couldn’t be. But even If it was, I knew that I had to keep it a secret. Not just form everyone else, even Candace herself.
