Chapter 4

"How are we going to get to California?" you exclaim. The prophecy had said you had to go there to kill a cyclops, and then arrive back at camp before the summer solstice, which happened to be in a day.

"We could drive there?" he suggests.

"Yeah, but how? Neither of us can drive." you turn to Nico.

"Maybe we could ask Argus to drive us there?" he suggests.

"Or we could just take a train." you argued.

"You know what? Fine. Whatever." Nico says.

After you had eaten dinner, you walked over to the beach where you were supposed to meet Percy.

You saw him standing with his back turned, staring at the water. "Hey" you say to him.

Percy turns to face you. "Hey, y/n! I actually wanted to talk to you about something." he seemed nervous.

"What's up?" you walk up to him.

"I've thought of you as my little sister. That was up until last summer." he starts.

"I've been thinking...and I realized that I actually kind of...like you...a lot."

"Percy..." your voice falters. This was literally the moment you've been dreaming of.

Then why did you feel so...empty?

He starts to lean in until his lips were touching yours. It took you a moment to realize what was happening.

You pull away. "I'm sorry..." You rush back to your cabin and open the door to see Annabeth crying on her bed.

"Annabeth? What's wrong?" you say, slightly out of breath.

"P-percy broke up with me. For no reason!"

You sit across from her and try to comfort her. You decided not to tell her what had happened earlier. You assumed that the absolute atomic bomb Percy had dropped on you a few moments before was the cause of him breaking up with Annabeth.

After she wasn't crying anymore, you decided to pack a backpack for your quest with Nico on the following day. You pack a few bottles of water, some ambrosia squares, nectar, your sword that turned into a ring, some mortal money your dad had given you as an allowance, and a golden drachma in case you had to make an Iris message.

After 20 minutes of making sure you had enough, you were ready to go.
