Chapter 5
We sat and laughed in the car for what felt like forever. We were chased by half of the staff out of the country club and I think the only reason the last two stopped chasing us was because Nalia threatened to strip her clothes too.
Jay quickly sent the video to the seniors and we waited patiently for a response.
"Well I think that went quite well," Jay said once he regained his breath.
"Yeah...That's one way to put it," I giggled, as I kept replaying the night over in my head.
"Are you having fun so far Mac?" He asked as she sat up from the seat.
Surprisingly, I didn't have to think about this question.
"Actually, I think I am."
"Good. Then you don't mind leading the next task," Nalia smirked, wagging his eyebrows at me.
"Oh uhh...I don't know about that. I mean, you guys can keep pulling me around. I'm okay with that."
"No way Mac. This is all you. We'll just be your little minions. Hágalo," Jay replied with an encouraging smile.
A beep sounded in the car and Nalia and Jay both scrambled to grab Jay's phone.
After an intense wrestling match, Nalia finally pulled Jay's phone out of his grip.
"Ha! Now sit back peasants. I'm going to read it out loud."
Seniors: Congrats team! You are currently leading. Here's the third task of the Sevenger.
Steal a Jason's Groceries employee's name tag and bring it to TJ Rush.
"We're leading? As in...we're in first place?" I dared ask, while sneaking a peek at Nalia and Jay.
"We're in first place..." Nalia nodded, looking a bit awestruck. Then she rolled down the window and yelled, "WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE!!"
Jay did a dance in his seat before it seemed to hit him that we needed to get going.
"Buckle up girls! We gotta get to Jason's if we plan on keeping our first place spot."
With that, we zoomed away from the dreaded country club and to a place with a few more exciting adventures for us.

"Let's run through the plan one more time. We walk in. Nalia and I find a worker. We ask the worker a bunch of confusing questions. Then Mac, you walk up and "accidentally" bump into the worker and grab the name tag when you do. Simple," Jay said with a shrug.
"Simple," I repeated, trying to convince myself that it was indeed simple. The rational part of my brain was telling me this was crazy and that I would probably be locked up in the nut house for attempting this. While the wild part of my brain was telling me that this was child's play and it would only lead me to better times.
And perhaps, for the second time in my life, I followed the latter.
The walk up to the Jason's doors was miserable. I kept checking around me, sure someone was watching me. Then I began making up fake solutions to fake problems just in case something went wrong.
Of course, I was missing the solution to one particular problem that I would soon discover.
I strode into Jason's, intent on becoming the best theft this Jason's had ever seen. Then I began seeing all the people around and my new found confidence quickly deflated.
"Can I just have a minute to walk around?" I asked my friends, trying to keep my breathing calm and my heart beat steady.
"Uhh okayyyyy" Nalia said with a worried look at Jay. "But remember we're on a tight schedule Mac"
"Yup. Got it," I said, already walking away.
"We're going to grab some snacks," Jay yelled over his shoulder.
I chuckled as I ducked out of the main aisle and pretended like I was shopping for some exercise clothes.
Even though Jay and Nalia's had sounded feasible at the time, I wasn't a very good actress. I had to do this spur of the moment or I was going to get caught.
I decided it was going to be easiest to grab a tag from one of the worker's who was in a less popular section.
I spotted a worker a few racks away. She had a small build. Small enough where if she tackled me it wouldn't hurt too bad. She looked bored out of her mind, scanning price tags and typing something into her scanner. She wouldn't be looking for someone trying to steal her tag. She was the perfect target.
I took one last deep breath then made my over to her.
"Um, excuse me? Where are your...the shoes?"
I knew it was all wrong once she raised a limp hand to point to the left.
I opened my mouth to say something else, anything else, but nothing came to mind. Instead I just mumbled a thanks and stalked away.
I truly was the worst at stealing things.
Back to Plan A it was.
I was naturally a klutz. Bumping into someone was just built into my DNA. Maybe Jay and Nalia's plan would actually work. I would just have to add an extra step to my normal routine of tripping.
I felt a small smile creep onto my face at the thought of actually being successful with this. I could do this.
Just as I straightened my back and turned to hunt for my friends, I saw my worst nightmare. My mother.
