Summer POV

I ran to my car in tears; I hoped that no one would follow me. I opened my car with the key and hopped in as quickly as I could. I put my car in gear and drove straight out of school. I cried the whole way home. When I got home, I ran inside slamming the door and ran to the stairs to go to my room but I bumped into James. He caught me and wouldn’t let me go.

“Let go of me!” I yelled and banged my fist against his bare chest.

“What happened?” he demanded.

“Let go of me!” I cried. Then I just burst into tears and hugged myself into him. He wound his arms around me protectively and let me cry.

“Did the boys hurt you?” he asked.

“No…they got into a fight,” I answered.

“That’s what upset you?” he asked.

I nodded in his grip.

“Why were they in a fight?” he asked.

“I don’t know,” I whispered.

“Tell me what happened,” he suggested.

“I was with Nixon and the other jocks and Nixon had his arm around my waist. Then I was told that Janice is spreading rumours about me doing strip dances at the Hilton Pub and they all knew about it and then Chase and Nixon started fighting. I begged Chase not too but Shane and Jay dragged me away. I couldn’t fight them off,” I explained.

He pulled my face up so he could look at me, “You know what I think?”

“No,” I replied.

“I think that they’re jealous that you were talking with some other boys, especially Nixon. They’re just very protective of you,” he said.

“Now you’re taking their side?” I asked narrowing my eyes.

“No way!” he exclaimed, “They made you upset. Why would I take their side?”

I shrugged then buried myself into his chest again.

Then I felt him tense.

“What’s wrong?” I asked looking up at him.

“They’re here!” he hissed.

I turned to look where he was looking; there were small mirrors on the side of the door. I saw the five of them getting out of their cars and heading straight to the front door.
