when athena finally made it back to her mother's apartment it was almost one am. for that reason it surprised her to find her little brother, ryan still wide awake.

"what are you doing up, buddy?" athena asked as she sat down next to ryan.

"i'm not thirteen anymore, thena." the boy chuckled.

"i know, but you're usually asleep by now." the girl said as she messed his hair up a little bit.

after minutes of silence, ryan finally spoke up.

"where were you?"

"um-i i was at daniel's." athena stuttered.

ryan simply nodded before hugging athena.

"goodnight, sis. i love you." with those words the teenager went to his room. athena was confused about what had happened, but she went to bed anyways.

she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened earlier in daniel's apartment and it kept her wide awake for long hours. she was finally able to fall asleep, but still with daniel in her thoughts.

athena woke up and didn't even think it twice. she got ready and headed out to the nearest grocery store.

the girl picked up a couple of snacks, payed for them and went back to the apartment complex. but instead of going to her mother's apartment, she went back to where she was the night before. daniel's apartment.

she knocked loud enough for him to hear, causing him to shout a quick 'come in' which made her open the door slowly.

since she didn't see him in the kitchen or living room, she placed the bag with the snacks on the counter and went to the boy's bedroom. she found him checking his phone. when he noticed someone was there, he locked his phone and put it in his pocket.

athena quickly jogged over to him and he picked her up. her arms were wrapped around his neck and his hands were on athena's tights so she wouldn't fall off.

without even thinking, athena connected her lips with the boys. the two shared a sweet kiss and as athena pulled away she hid her face in the crook of daniel's neck.

"i brought watermelon sour patches." the girl mumbled against his neck, sending shivers up his spine.

"thanks." daniel smiled as he put her down.

they didn't know what had caused them to hook up and to act like a couple all of the sudden, but athena didn't mind. athena felt happy and safe around daniel.

they both didn't know why they were 'together', but everyone else could see right through their eyes.

they were scared of being alone.
