My best friend, Farah McCarthy, was all I had and everything I wanted to be. She was strong, confident, brave, and I would do anything to get her back now... We grew up together like most of the kids in the small town of Miller, Texas and the start of Freshman year was hard; everyone was interested in the next piece of gossip and no one seemed to care about one another's feelings until it was them being bad-mouthed about. One day I was eavesdropping in the locker room when I overheard something interesting. We had just come in from running. I don't remember the conversation fully since it was so many years ago when it happened. As we were exiting the locker room I noticed Farah falling behind the group.

"Excuse me, is there something wrong?" I asked. Farah looked at me slowly, and with one wrong move, anyone could set her off. We stood there in silence for what felt like an eternity until something snapped in her.

"What do you want me to say? Get the fuck out of my face!" She barked harshly. All I could do was stare at her with wide eyes, never before have I ever heard her talk like that.

I know she may come off a bit bitchy, but it really wasn't her fault. People developed relationships too quickly during high school, and as quickly as they formed, the quicker they fell apart. See rumors have been going around for a while about her and Brian Novic, and believe me when I say some of them were a little outrageous. Brian and Farah would eventually get together, but during Freshman year their relationship was nothing more than rumors and speculation. In an attempt to get her back I decided to bring her into my world but Farah and I became distant after that year, thin a lot of things happen and eventually, our relationship fell apart by junior year, which is where we are now.

Now I sit here trying to pass my Junior English test on a Sunday. Luckily, there aren't many people here, but I still feel embraced. My class was accused of giving out the answers, so everyone had to re-do the stupid test. Of course I had to be absent for it. I looked back at my test and scrunched up my face. I don't like English and my teacher knew it, but she insisted on making me literarily informed. I scrunched up my face even more. I get suspicious when I see "All the above" on a test. Sometimes I think she's gone mad with all the tests she gives out.

"Sarah! Are you daydreaming again?" I jumped out of my thoughts, her shrieking voice catching me off guard.

"No ma'am, I was just trying to figure out something," I said. She squinted her eyes. I could already tell this wasn't going to end well.

"And what would that something be?" Well shit, she just had to ask.

"Oh um... well , why aren't you married?" Her fat face jiggled with shock.

"That is none of your business, Miss Montgomery. Go to the principles office."

"Why?" I know I was pressing my luck, but I couldn't help it.

"Because you're disturbing the class."

"That's not a proper excuse! It's bad enough you have us here on a Sunday, but now you're trying to get me into trouble?" Her face became red and full like a balloon about to burst.

"Get out!" The class began to snicker as our plump teacher wobbled to the door. As she slammed it while I was on my way out, the door clipped the back of my sneakers.

"Geez, talk about sensitive." When I made it to the office, I went past the secretary and plopped down in the principal's office and waited.

"Sarah? You back here kiddo? I got a call that you'd be coming to my office." Principle Lyall looked around the corner and smiled.

I was setting in the furthest chair next to his desk when he came running in. Principle Lyall is my mothers baby brother and because of that, I either got away with everything, or was constantly being put in the principles office. He ran his fingers through his freshly gelled hair before he joined me. His massive leather chair protested at his large size. He fixed his tie before talking again.
