Sun filtered the camp through the leaves, on to the Highrock where a dark ginger-brown she-cat stood.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting," Sapstar yowled.
Cats filled in the space below as Sapstar spoke.
"Today we have two new apprentices! Bearkit, step forward," Sapstar announced.
Bearkit stepped forward confidently.
"From now on, until you have earned your warrior name, you shall be known as Bearpaw, your mentor shall be Gorsefoot. Gorsefoot, you had a great mentor in Birchfur and I hope you pass your confidence and wits to Bearpaw," Sapstar mewed.
Gorsefoot touched noses with Bearpaw as they backed up into the group.
"Badgerkit, step forward," Sapstar meowed.
Badgerkit stepped forward tentatively.
"From now on, until you have earned your warrior name, you shall be known as Badgerpaw, I shall mentor you," Sapstar mewed.
Gasps of surprise spread around the clearing, no one had been leader's apprentice since Bluestar mentored Firestar!
"I had a good mentor in Heatherfoot an I shall pass down my strength and strategy into Badgerpaw," Sapstar finished when the clearing had settled.

Badgerpaw walked forward in a crouch, being careful to not make noise. She leapt at the reddish-orange figure before her and bit swiftly into its neck.
"Nice catch," Sapstar commented.
"Thanks," Badgerpaw mewed with a mouthful of squirrel.
"You have the hunter's crouch perfectly," Sapstar mewed. "You'll be a great hunter in no time!"
Badgerpaw smiles shyly up at her mentor, not used to praise.
"Now, let's bring out prey back to camp, we must stock up for leaf-bare," Sapstar mewed.
They walked back to camp wt h the prey they had caught. They entered the entrance to the camp and set down their prey in the pile, next to a thrush and vole. Badgerpaw sat at the entrance to the apprentice's den, waiting to share news with Bearpaw. Featherpaw came up to her, her silver pelt almost white in the light. She sat down next to her and smiled.
"How was your first training session?" She asked.
"Good," Badgerpaw mewed to the older cat.
"How much prey did you and Sapstar catch?" Featherpaw asked.
"Well, I caught a sparrow, two mice, and a squirrel and Sapstar caught a pigeon, two thrush, and a mouse," Badgerpaw replied. "Did you go hunting today?"
"Ya," Featherpaw replied. "I didn't catch much, it was an unlucky place we were in, I caught a vole."
"Badgerpaw!" A new voice yowled over.
Badgerpaw's fave lit up as she ran over to her brother.
"How was your training?" Badgerpaw asked.
"Ok," Bearpaw mewed. "I learned a few battle moves. How about you?"
"Good," Badgerpaw mewed. "I caught a sparrow, two mice, and a squirrel."
"Cool," Bearpaw mewed. "When is Sapstar going to teach you some battle moves?"
"She said tomorrow she would," Badgerpaw replied.
They walked back to the apprentice den, Featherpaw had disappeared inside the den and as they reached the entrance a yowl came from the forest. Sapstar ran out of her den to the yowl, Badgerpaw and Bearpaw followed.
"BADGER!" A dark brown she-cat named Treescar yowled.

Treescar lead Sapstar and a few other warriors to the badger. As the badger appeared Sapstar spring ahead, thrusting herself at the badger. She landed on the badger's shoulders and hung on as it threw her around. Badgerpaw leapt for the badger, locking her teeth into one of its hind legs. The badger stumbled a bit, but then easily swung Badgerpaw off of it. She hit a tree with thud and got up, limping, but still good. As she attempted to leap, the badger flung Sapstar off and ran. 
  "That was close, are you ok?" Sapstar meowed.
  "Ya," Badgerpaw mewed, still out of breath.
