Chapter 2
I couldn't help but pant when I got to the ninth floor. The elevator had stopped working due to the students using them to often. The maintnence man had directed me to the stairs and I sighed loudly to myself. I had just lugged my bags across the campus and now they wanted me to go nine stories up with them. I sighed again and went up. The hallway was completley empty when I got to it, I could hear voices and music coming out of the rooms but there were no people. I walked slowly down the hallway and looked at every door, room 346 was my room. I finally reached the door and let out a small smile, finally. The door was a dark grey and clad on the front were two white boards. Like every room white boards were stationed on the door, one under the other. Stationed just over my blank one, was a whiteboard completly covered in pink rhinestones that read "ROOMMATE WANTED!". I smiled to myself, we may have different tastes but I hope shes nice. I ran my hand over my key card before sliding into lock, the light turned green and the door clicked. I pulled my fingers around the knob and turned it slowly before opening the door. A whiff of vanilla hit me instantly before a girl in a white skirt and pink shirt popped her head out of the living room. I smiled my kindest smile and stepped into the room closing the door behind me.
"Ummmm....Hello" I said, she looked at me peculiarly before a smile spread across her face.
"You must be Darcy!" She said and ran up to me engulfing me in a hug. I hugged back and nodded "That would be me" She pulled away and picked up one of my bags with ease "Let me show you the room!". I walked behind her and into a small room with a mattress, desk, chair, lamp, and dresser. I looked around a bit before looking back to the girl "We don't share a room?" she shook her blonde dangling curly pigtails and smiled wide "Nope". I nodded, her strange blue eyes reminded me of someone but who? I must have been starring at her to much because stepped away and pretended to look at my luggage tag "Darcy Marie Rowe, your names so pretty!" I shook my head and smiled softly.
"I beg to differ, my name is old ladyish" She let out a giggle and waved her hand at me "No way my name is old ladyish, Maria Elizabeth Stone thats old ladyish." I let out giggle and looked around again before looking to my bags "Want to help me unpack?" Maria nodded and unzipped my bag with a smile.
After two hours of unpacking my luggage and setting up my room, we finally finished. I watched as Maria set up my pictures and then turned to me with a grin.
"No bedding?" she asked and looked at my bare mattress. I put my plam up to my head and sighed, I left that at the airport. She smiled, reading my face and clapped her hands pulling me out of my stupidity "Father sent me two just in case I didn't like one, you can have it blue's not my color. She bounded out of the room quickly and through the conjoining bathroom. I heard her rustling through her closet before she carried a bed set with pillows, blankets, and sheets in her perfectly manicured hands. She set down the blue and purple satin bedding down and opened it up to pull out the other contents. I waved my hands and stood up "Are you sure? I mean I don't want to take anything that your family..." I was cut off by her finger softly hitting my lips " I am completley sure Darcy". I nodded and we made the bed, the bedding was soft, very high quality much better than my walmart set. I smiled at Maria and we fell back onto the bed laughing. She let out an excited squeal and looked at me, "I feel like your already my best of friends! I'm so happy you were paired up with me!" I could tell she was enthusiastic about our living together. I smiled and nodded agreeing with her 100%, I really thought I wasn't going to make friends here in Ellisen but already I had made two, thats if you consider Elliot a friend.
Maria and I talked for what seemed like hours, our conversation mostly centered around the school and the people that lived here. I could tell she was itching to ask something by the way she starred at the picture of my mother, myself, and David that was sitting on my nightstand. The part where my father was was now folded over and hidden but his arm around my mother couldn't be taken out. I let out a sigh and looked at her " You can ask me, I know your curious" She nodded and bit her lip "Why is your father folded out of the picture?" I looked out the window before turning to answer her.
"My father is folded because I hate him, he destroyed my family and murdered my mother in cold blood. He's serving a life sentence in Western State Prison because he's a worthless drugged up abuser." I said coldly and closed my eyes "My mother Wendy was so kind, loving....she didn't desrve to die but that bastard...." I clenched my fist and breathed out shakily "I have an older brother to....his names David....he left and went to college about 4 years ago, I haven't seen him since" I looked up, Maria's eye's were sad, hints of tears lurked behind her lashes she spoke softly "I'm so sorry". I knew I would be fine here, if I was this comfortable talking to Maria then I could only wonder how i'd feel around others.
A/N: So did you like Maria? >w<
