Chapter 9

Everyone in the room held their breath, including me. I could tell they were all stunned by my question, or was it more of an accusation? Maria was the first to even remotely try to make a sound, her soft sigh broke through to all of us. What if I had just asked them a question that wasn't even right? What if they thought that I was crazy? Elliot stood and walked toward me slowly, cautiously.

"What exactly did your brother tell you?" He asked softly, I was taken aback and stumbled into the wall. Was this a yes? Why did they need to know about what my brother said? Better yet did they know David was is a werewolf? Elliot stopped instantly taking in my expression of confusion as more of an expression of fear. Maria was the next to speak, her voice was soft but I could tell she was just as scared to tell me what she was as I was to hear it.

"Darcy....I won't hurt you you know that right?....We're good...Vampire's.... most of us...." She went silent when Elliot shot her what I came to know as a warning look from years of living with my father. My hand's flew up to my face and a strangled noise broke through my lips. My friends, all of them, were Vampire's? I couldn't help but fear them a little, I mean years of stories about them had poisoned my mind. I looked at Travis who was completely silent on the couch. Footsteps came closer and by the way the sounded I could tell Maria was walking toward me. My eye's toward her and I couldn't help but fell terrible. Tears were streaming down her face, but these tears were different than normal tears. Her tears were like tinged with black, now don't get me wrong if you weren't paying attention it would just look like make-up. Maria stopped about six feet away from me, I could tell by the way she hung her head that she figured I was afraid of her. I had to compose myself these were my friends and I told myself they would stay that way no matter the out come. I stood straight and smiled brightly.

"I'm not afraid....just stunned...I mean I always thought Vampire's and Werewolves didn't exist" Maria's face lit up as she smiled, Travis finally got up and smiled, and Elliot just smirked cockily at me. I couldn't help the way I felt, these were my frineds; not only did they save my life but they changed it as well.

We finally all sat on the couch after about a half hour of silence, I had question's that needed to be answered.

"So how is it you can go out in sunlight?" I asked out of the blue, they all erupted in laughter.

"Of course you would ask that first" Maria blurted and smiled at me, I could tell this was like a weight off of their shoulders.

"We don't burn in sunlight like most movie's would have you believe" Elliot said and ran his hand over his face so his laughter would go away. "We live in the sunlight just like human's do, the only thing that we can't do is tan, we basically get a really bad sunburn but it goes away in little over an hour" I nodded astonished, all of my childhood dracula memories just flew out the window.

"What about stake's, and garlic?" I asked curiously, again they only laughed; well now I felt stupid.

"Stakes can kill us if they can take out our hearts with them, otherwise no they are as inaffective as the sun. Garlic, well most of us don't like it because of the stench but it doesn't weaken or kill us either" I smiled and nodded, I can't really explain what I felt at the moment but what I can say is it felt nice to know the truth.

We all talked through out the night, I found out that Travis had bought my car for me and of course I complained, I paid him but he wouldn't accept it all. I also found out more about the Vampire's in this town and why they were here. Apparently the counsel came here, as did the Nobel family's, they made this town to harbor the Vampires and their secrets as well as watch us humans. I was quite astonished at the way that they had come here, all of their struggles, the nobel's and underlings, and everything else. We finally all got to sleep around 7:00 a.m., I was dreaming something but I couldn't remember after a loud shout came from the doorway area of our dorm. David was standing at the door with Elliot and Travis holding him back from me. I jumped up and Maria grabbed my hand as soon as I came around the corner. Her eye's were a peircing white and her teeth had become fangs, I can't say i was terrified because I honestly wasn't.
