At 10:14am the next morning, Caroline heard banging on her door. She got up from her bed, where she had been scrolling through her phone, and opened it revealing a hungover looking Sam.

"What happened?"

"What do you mean what happened? You got so drunk you couldn't stand up and David showed up here to drop you off, but I brought him to your apartment"

"I know, he texted me, but did you talk to him after?"

"I.... yeah, why?"

"He wouldn't fucking shut up about you"

"What do you mean?"

"The whole party, everything I remember about that party was him following me and asking 10 million questions about you and how you're doing and telling me how sorry he is for everything"

Caroline scanned Sam's face to see if David had spilled everything. She could tell that he hadn't.

"We just talked for a minute after you went to bed" Caroline explained.

"Well I think maybe you should really talk to him"

"I don't think I should do anything"

"Caroline, you know I could have slept on his couch. He came here to see you"

"And I have no obligation to have a long conversation with him. If I want to I will"

"I... he's not a bad guy"

"I never said he was"

"You avoid him like he's the fucking bubonic plague"

"Yeah, but I don't make anyone else avoid him like the bubonic plague and you know I sure as hell don't talk bad about him"

"I just-" Sam paused, deciding what to say next. She talked herself out of what she was going to initially say. "You know what, yeah, that's fine, you don't have to talk to him and i'm sorry for confronting you"

"It's ok"

Caroline and Sam stood in silence for a minute.

"If we're gonna bring up things we should do, you should stop drinking that fucking much, like Jesus Christ does that feel good in the morning?"

Sam laughed.

"It doesn't, I need to learn my limits"

"I would say yeah, but you just turned 21 so i'll give you a grace period"

Sam laughed.

"So seriously... are you ever gonna talk to David?"

"What do you mean?"

"Are you ever gonna actually stop avoiding him? And sit down and talk to him?"

"I can't see myself ever initiating that"

"Why?"

"I don't know if I see a point"

"Well I think he does"
