27 / When the Party's Over (pt. 2)

"I can't do this to you again. There's no fucking way" David said, sitting on the couch next to her. "I fucking love you, Caroline. I fucked you over so badly and now i'm just looking for any excuse to just walk away again so I don't have to think about the fact that you fucking forgave me. Listen to me" He said, gently putting his hand on her leg.

Caroline looked up at him, her face red and blotchy.

"I love you. I love you so much it fucking scares me. Every time I've seen you since that night my heart pounds being near you. I don't care what Liza thinks, I don't care what Sam thinks, I don't care what anybody thinks, but what makes me want to push you away is that maybe they're right, and maybe i'm just going to hurt you all over again somehow"

"You can't keep doing this, David"

"I know" He said, wrapping his arms around Caroline.

"I wish you had just cut this off before it got romantic again" Caroline wiped the tears that were rapidly falling from her eyes, smearing her makeup across her face instead. "If you're just going to leave again"

"I'm not going anywhere"

"Why would I believe that?"

David was silent, surveying Caroline's face; from her red eyes to hear smeared makeup.

"I... don't know why you would, but i'm telling you right now that I will prove it to you"

"David, I don't even know if I want you to prove it to me"

All David could think about was how much he regretted coming over and saying what he said. His head started to spin with how stupid that decision had been.

"Caroline, please" David begged, taking her hands in his. "Please"

Caroline just sat, her shoulders rising and falling with every coming breath, as if she had just came from a run. She shook her head.

"David..." She trailed off.

"I won't leave again. I promise"

She shook her head again, putting her head in her hands. David's heart shattered watching her. She was, for lack of a more fitting term, an absolute wreck. David made a split second decision. He picked his phone up off of the table and walked out of Caroline's apartment, closing the door behind him.
