Alex arrived at Caroline's apartment about 30 minutes after he left David's apartment. He parked in a space, turned off his car, and called the number he had for Caroline 3 years ago. He had no clue what apartment she was in, and prayed that she hadn't changed her number.

"Alex?" A confused Caroline asked, picking up the phone.

"What apartment number are you? Can I come over?"

"304... um, yeah you can come over... are you here?"

"Yeah" Alex said, hanging up the phone.

He got out of his car, closing the door behind him and quickly finding Caroline's apartment. He knocked and Caroline, wearing leggings and a tank top and ready for bed, opened the door.

"Hey..." She said hesitantly.

"Remember that night when you were crying and I told you if David fucks with you i'll beat him up?"

Caroline gave him a weird look. "Yes..."

"Well, I stuck to my word. I'm so fucking sorry, I had no idea"

It quickly registered to Caroline that David had told Alex everything.

"He told you?"

Alex nodded.

"Wait, what do you mean you beat him up?"

"I punched him in the face"

Caroline's eyes widened and she laughed a little.

"Are you serious?"

Alex nodded.

"Are you ok?" Caroline asked.

"More importantly, are you ok?"

Caroline looked down before looking back up at Alex.

"I'm ok"

Alex pulled Caroline into the tightest embrace she had ever felt.

"I wish I had been there for you" Alex said.

Caroline pulled back gently.

"You tried to be. You texted me a few times after and I didn't tell you the truth, then I stopped replying. You didn't know, and I didn't ask for help"

"What can I do now? What do you want me to do now?"

Caroline was quiet for a moment.

"Honestly?"

Alex nodded.

"I want you to be there for David. You and Dom are the only people who were good friends with him when everything went down, and i'm nearly positive he's never going to tell Dom unless it somehow gets out. Most of his friends now didn't know him back then.... he needs someone on his team"

"Caroline..." Alex started.

"He came over and we completely talked it out. It was more than I could have ever asked for"

"But-"

"Alex, please. I can't be there for him when I'm in the middle of this, too. He needs somebody who he trusts and who knows the situation to be there for him."

"That's really what you want?"

"That's really what I want"
