"Jane, I can't believe you don't have a boyfriend yet."

Max and Jane were in the library flipping through books. Max originally wanted to find a book on psychology to use on her brother, but now she was a lot more interested in her best friend's love life. "Who says I don't have a boyfriend?"

Max snorted. "You? Out of all people, have a secret boyfriend?" She threw a book out of the pile she'd been looking at.

"Well no, but I could have one." Jane was starting to get defensive, she pushed her black rimmed spectacles up the bridge of her thin nose. She took a sip of the Caramel macchiato sitting on the small wooden desk.

"Who? Plain Jane has a boyfriend? Is this the end of the world?" It seemed their conversation caught the attention of Stacey and her friends. They all sat down around the two girls and instantly Jane sat up straighter,

"So now that we're all sitting, spill the beans Jane. Who's the mystery boy? It seems your finally cool enough to be seen around with." Stacey's eyes seemed to bore into hers. She wanted to be friends with Stacey, that's all she's ever wanted to do since she started high school. She wanted to be cool too for once.

"Well actually, Janey here doesn-"

She cut Max off. "Doesn't want it to be a mystery anymore! I actually do have a boyfriend! And his name is.."

Max looked at her with raised eyebrows. Stacey and the girls seemed very intrigued, this could get her and Max a good seat at lunch.

She quickly scanned the yearbook had been holding.

Bill Brown... Harry Greene.... William Hershe... Michael Wheeler.. Why not?

"Michael Wheeler!" She realized she seemed a little too triumphant. She toned it down a bit and looked around, it seemed that Stacey, Max and the rest of the girls were shocked she wasn't actually lying. Which she was..

"Really? Mike Wheeler? Your low Jane, but not that low. You could honestly do so much better then that nerd." A girl named Greta scoffed.

She had never met Mike Wheeler, but judging from his yearbook photo she'd say he was pretty attractive. What were they talking about? Had she picked a nerd as her fake boyfriend? Would this make her less cool then she hoped.

There was an awkward silence, then all the girls laughed except Jane. " What? What is so funny?"

"Oh Jane, your so smart. I did that too with my first boyfriend, you picked someone lower then you so that they wouldn't dare leave you!"

"Right! right." Jane felt bad. Everyone was calling this Mike guy a weirdo and she didn't even know him.

"So how is everything going? You don't look too happy?" Stacey seemed thoroughly concerned, Jane didn't know she could do that. She decided to act the part.

"I don't know Stacey" She pouted "it stills seems like Mike doesn't like me.." She wiped a fake tear from her eye and slumped down. Damn she was a good actress.

"Aww! you poor thing. Don't worry, I'll go up to him tomorrow and tell him how much he doesn't deserve you and how great you are." Okay, maybe she was too great of an actress.

"No! no, no it's fine. I'll just talk to him. No need to bother you Stacey."

"Nonsense, you deserve to be happy with your first boyfriend." She knew there was no beating Stacey, she just had to get to Mike first.

"so tell me about him." Max was not believing this, She had put on her sickly sweet voice.

"Well um...  He really likes football"

"Didn't he write 'Disgusting pigs' on the football players lockers a month ago?" Stacey furrowed her brows.

"He gets like that sometimes." She smiled nervously.

"What does he want to be in the future?"

"Um.. He wants to be a... PE teacher! Yeah, that's it."

"Jane, he failed PE."

"Right, I forgot, that was his old goal... Now he wants to be an.. artist!"

"But he writes the school newspaper..?"

"A writing artist." She mentally cringed.

"Jane.." Stacey looked around at all the girls and then put a hand on Jane's lap. "We know what your doing..."

"You do?" She felt sweat beads.

"Yeah... Your in a toxic relationship where you guys only base the relationship on looks!"

"Uhm.. Yeah.. I guess."

"I totally understand you, but now us girls have to go. We have an appointment at Farrah's salon and we definitely do not want to be late for that!" All the girls giggled and hurried to get up. Max and Jane were alone again.

"what the fuck was that?"

"What? you don't believe I have a boyfriend?"

"No, I know Mike wheeler and he is not your boyfriend."

"shit, you got me."

The next day at school was nerve wracking. I had to quickly find this Mike guy and explain the situation to him before Stacey accidentally does.

I ran through the halls, just looking for this Wheeler boy. What have I gotten myself into? Are you serious? There was like no one that looked like that in the halls. I ran and ran, but to no avail. I was beginning to give up.

Max said she wouldn't help me since she was actually friends with this dude and I needed to learn my lesson. God, nothing was going my way today!

I shoved all my things in my locker and checked each classroom. where was this dude? I really wanted to meet my first fake boyfriend. I never had one because my stupid dad always kept the boys at bay. This year was my final year for prom, I was a senior.. A very lonely senior.

I almost gave up when I heard the sound of a guitar playing a few melodies. It wouldn't hurt to check the music room would it? I shyly walked in and checked around the corners, I saw the outline of a person with a guitar sitting on the edge of the auditorium stage. Could this be Mike?

I walked out to the stage. "Hello?" My voice rang out as an echo into the empty room, I cringed.

The figure got up with the guitar and came into the light. It was him! I walked towards him and began to speak. "Hi I'm J-"

Then I heard footsteps that sounded oddly like Stacey's high heels clacking against the checkered hallways. Shit. I was running out of time!

I didn't notice that he had walked closer to me, so when I turned around and took a step forward, I fell.

On top of him.

I don't know know why, but my lips fell onto of his? Accident? Yes. Do I regret it? No.

Stacey came inside the auditorium and smiled. "I'll leave you two be." She walked out of the room. I turned my head to the tall lanky boy underneath me. He was a lot taller then I expected,

"Hi, I'm Jane Hopper and I'm so sorry about falling on you."

"Hello there, I'm Mike Wheeler and I'm not  sorry about kissing you."
