"You can't keep me here forever." A lanky raven haired boy croaked.
Millie peered around the corner curiously. What was this tall nerdy looking boy doing at the police station.
She slyly walked around the corner and next to officer McLaughlin.
"What's he in here for Caleb?" She questioned.
"Oh him? Me and Oleff caught him sneaking around at night on his schools property. Says his parents are out of town."
Millie held back a laugh. Him, trespassing? Didn't look like much off a rebel.
"How about since it's your first day on the job. You can question him, since your so curious about him. I'm going to question his fiery red head lady friend we found with him."
Millie blushed a rose colour.
"O-okay. Thanks."
At this point, the tall raven haired boy looked down at his shoes on shame.
Millie was curious about why he looked like a star Trekkie, yet trespassed in his school at night.
He gulped, making his glasses slide further down the bridge of his nose.
Now that Caleb had left, she could do her questioning.
She sat from the chair across from him.
"I don't like to question people without letting them ask myself somethings. So shoot." She said leaning her elbows against the table.
"Your voice is quite peculiar." He said not looking up.
"That's not a question."
".."
"Any other questions before I question you?"
"How old are you?"
"I'm in high school. I wanted to follow in my moms footsteps and I volunteer here."
"I've never seen you around. What school do you go to?"
"I go to Hawkins private school."
"I go to the public one.."
"Done with the questions?"
He shook his head.
"One last one. What's your name?"
"My name is Millie Brown and I'm seventeen years old. And you?"
"Finn. Finn Wolfhard."
"Finn... why are you here?"
"I left my textbook at school and snook in with my friend Sadie, who convinced me to do it, so that I could get it back and do my homework."
"Why didn't you just wait for tomorrow and tell your teacher you forgot it at school?"
"I've never not finished my homework. And I wasn't about to."
"Interesting. Are you a Trekkie?"
"What does that have to do with anything? And no. I'm more of a Star Wars guy."
"Same."
"Millie. Can I tell you something?"
"Shoot."
"I really don't want to be here. I'm a good student. I always had perfect attendance, finished my homework early, I'm a good brother, at least I think I am, and I knew it was a bad idea to sneak in." He looked like he was about to burst into tears.
Millie felt bad for the boy. It was obvious, the boy never got into trouble.
"Where are your parents?"
"My dad.. passed away when I was five and my mom is in Chicago on a business trip."
"So no one is here to bail you out?"
"My sister Nancy is in New York as a publisher and my sister Holly is at home alone. I'm scared for her Millie, she's been home alone for the last two days. She knows how to microwave food, but I feel bad for not being good enough for her."
"I-I don't know what to say."
"Just, tell me if you can help me."
"I-I'll try?" She stumbled out.
"Thanks. Holly means the world to me."
***
"Caleb, Finn needs to go home. He has a sibling under nine."
"Is his mom there?"
"In Chicago."
"Alright. The girl stays though."
Millie glanced at the girl in the cell making goo goo eyes at Caleb.
"She doesn't seem too upset about it." Millie pointed out.
Caleb turned red.
"Whatever mils, take your lover boy and leave."
"Sure McLaughlin."
***
"Thanks again for everything Millie." The freckle boy said.
"Don't repeat yourself too many times." Millie laughed.
"I can't thank you enough." He said looking at her.
They spent a while just looking at each other. It seemed that Finn wanted to ask her something but was holding back.
"Finn..."
"Can I have your number?" He blurted.
He looked embarrassed.
"It's okay if you don't want to-"
"I'd love too."
They exchanged numbers and Finn glanced back at her.
"Tell Holly I said hi."
"Will do."
