Chapter 6: Rick Arrives
The street was surprisingly empty. Fern was glad to have Zephier walking so close to her; she was so close that a passerby actually mistook them for a couple. Zephier took them to the bridge that led to the school. The city was cold and the sunrise was just beginning to emerge.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" Zephier asked referring to the sunrise.
"It sure is." Fern smiled.
"I watch it every morning."
"I can see why." Fern said mesmerized by the crimson rays streaming over the water.
"So why did you leave England?" Zephier asked as he stood idly watching the sunrise.
"Family troubles." Fern looked at the ground. "I don't want to talk about it."
"I get it. We've all had our share of pain." Zephier grabbed Fern's hand.
Fern looked up at Zephier who had an odd look in his eyes. She knew what she wanted, she knew what he wanted. He looked so different, almost vulnerable. Zephier pulled Fern close.
"You make me feel different Fern. You make me feel good. Nobody else has done this to me before." Zephier looked her in the eyes.
"Zeph..." Fern said quietly before getting silenced by Zephier's lips.
Fern closed her eyes and kissed the blue haired boy back. She placed a hand on his cheek and let him hold her waist. It felt comforting.
…
John was walking up to the bridge when he saw Fern and Zephier.
"Wow that was quick." John thought to himself.
Abel wasn't far behind him. She had gotten distracted by a street vendor for a few seconds and John was gone.
"John! John, what the fuck, couldn't you wait a few seconds!?" Abel shouted.
"Shhh!" John whispered as he grabbed Abel and moved her to the side of the street.
"What?" Abel whispered in response to John's sudden actions.
John just pointed towards their two friends kissing on the bridge. Abel grinned and laughed.
"I knew that would happen." she said.
…
Fern broke away from the kiss and shied away. "This is pretty quick... don't you think?"
"Maybe, but I don't care." Zephier grinned.
"Well, we should get going." Fern said realizing that they still had to get to school.
John and Abel walked up behind Zephier.
"Nice job Zeph." John grinned and put a hand on Zephier's shoulders, sending a shiver down his spine.
"It's good to see you two together finally." Abel laughed.
Fern blushed and hid her face.
"John, were you two watching us the whole time?" Zephier asked moving his blue bang out of his eye.
"We caught up half way." John laughed.
"Oh, great. " Zephier said sarcastically.
…
Thirty Minutes later. Before Classes.
Rick strolled through the doors of the school, through the halls and into the music room where his piano awaited him. His jet black hoodie and blue jeans helped him stay hidden in the shadows and crowds. Rick's skills helped him survive back in Australia and he knew they would help him here. In America everyone thinks there so great but as soon as you leave everyone treats you like shit. Now all Rick had was his music. He had the rap skills to challenge Eminem to a battle and he could play piano better than Beethoven.
