The car ride was more awkward for Minho than anyone else he imagined, and it was simply because of how close in proximity he was to Jisung. Minho fumbled with his hands the entire car ride, a nervous habit to try and calm his racing heartbeat. He didn't want to shift too much, elsewise, he might have accidentally elbowed Jisung or something. He couldn't even sneak glances, fearful that Jisung would notice.
Thankfully, it was a short car ride away or else Minho would have really been dead. Everyone piled out, Jeongin the most excited as he ran up to the door. Jisung followed after him, leaving the oldest of the group at their tails.
"They have milkshakes!" Jeongin exclaimed, flipping through the menu with a wide smile. He chose one of the further booths in the back, arranging himself in the middle. On one side of him sat Woojin and Chan. on the other, Minho sat right beside Jisung, once again a nervous wreck as he fiddled with the menu. He'd been there enough times to know what he wanted, but he needed to do something with his hands. "Woojin will you buy my a milkshake?"
"Who said I would pay for any of your food?" Woojin complained.
"You have to, you're older."
"So?"
"Older friends should treat their younger friends." Jeongin said it slowly, like he was really trying to get Woojin to understand his logic. Chan decided to end their little feud.
"How about I pay for you and we finally order?" Chan was sure to grow broke if he kept spoiling the freshman like this.
Minho could still feel his heartbeat, the thumping loud as he snuck a quick peek at the boy beside him. Jisung was pensive, reading the menu with intensity and maybe little confusion. Minho decided to be brave.
"They have really good grilled cheese sandwiches here." He spoke so softly, he thought Jisung hadn't heard him. But he meet his gaze, Minho's face burning with Jisung's eyes on him.
"I was just thinking of ordering fries." Jisung finally said, eyes leaving his and going back to the menu.
"We could share." Minho was growing bold. Jisung thought about it, nodding a few moments later.
"But I want my own milkshake."
Minho respected his request, ordering a grilled cheese and fries with two chocolate milkshakes. Jeongin wanted to order the whole menu, but Woojin wouldn't allow it so they settled on ordering chicken tenders and their own set of milkshakes. Once the food had come around, Jeongin made himself the center of attention (as if he wasn't already) telling the group stories about his last school and how excited he was for high school.
"I don't understand why freshman hate high school, it's so fun." He commented, slurping up the last of his milkshake so he could start on his second one. Woojin couldn't talk him out of ordering two.
"That's because you're friends with seniors and people automatically think you're cool." Jisung pointed out, reaching for his half of the grilled cheese. Minho had barely eaten anything, stomach swirling as he watched Jisung eat. Eating shouldn't be cute, but Jisung was the definition of adorable as he munched away.
"Woojin is my only senior friend."
"Hey, what about me?" Chan butted in, hurt by Jeongin's words.
"I thought you were a junior, like Minho." Chan shook his head.
"I wouldn't be captain if I was a junior, they only let seniors run the show."
"And what a fine show you're running captain." Minho teased, saluting him with a smirk. It made Jisung laugh and Minho patted himself on the back for that small win.
"Hey don't get on my bad side, less you don't want to be captain next year."
"As if you would give it to anyone else, I'm the only one you trust." Chan flung his dirty napkin at Minho, it hit him smack in the chest.
"Keep acting smart and I'll make Felix captain." Minho was offended and also less nervous. Being more at ease, he turned to Jisung, pouty lips as he asked for his opinion.
"Do you think I'd make a good captain?" Jisung bowed his head, shy as Minho waited for an answer.
"You'd be the best captain ever." Jisung murmured, the softness of his voice sinking deep under Minho's skin.
"See even Jisung agrees." He laughed, playing off the feelings that have slowly started rising. He was acting like the class clown, but his heart was beating a mile a minute because of those few words. He had enough to courage to meet Jisung's eyes again, smiling wide once their eyes meet. Jisung ducked away soon after, Minho wondering if maybe he wasn't the only nervous one.
