Game day, and it was a big one. The whole school was packed inside the gym, ready for the chaos that was about to ensue. Minho was more nervous than ever, about the game, about Jisung. It was starting to hurt his head.
"Alright team, we've made it this far and I know today we'll make it even farther. You have no idea how proud I am of all you guys. We've worked so far to make it here and now we're one game away from winning it all. You guys have been doing so incredible and I have no doubt we'll be champions today. SO let's get out there and WIN!!!" The team hollers, amped up from Chan's speech. Minho feels his pulse quickening, the reality that this day has come on his shoulders. Felix comes over to Minho, nodding at him through his helmet.
"Play a great game, okay? You're boy is watching." Minho should say that it isn't true, Jisung isn't his, but he likes the way it sounds and leaves it that. Maybe he will be his, maybe after today's game, Minho can ask him.
The buzzer sounded and the puck is dropped a swirl of players fighting for it. Minho tried to push past their offense, his hockey stick in their way as he butted it to Felix. Felix was halfway across the rink, racing to the puck and keeping it with him as he neared the goal. One of the opposing players blocked him, spinning them both around as the puck comes back toward Minho who hurries to launch it across the way.
It goes on for a long while, the last minutes of the first period coming to an end. Not one team has scored and Minho has sweat dripping down his face as he skates down the ice, trying to take the puck away from the other team. His mind was solely focused on the score, he couldn't let the other team score first. He fell as he collided with another player, getting right back on his feet as he tried to help their defense. He heard shouts for them to keep the other player from scoring and he was back in the game in an instint, chucking the puck far away from the goal. The crowd roars, watching as Chan takes the puck, shuffling it toward their goal. It's quiet as he aims, the last minute of the game ticking down. Minho is skating forward when the puck makes contact with the net. A goal was made! Wild shouts erupt from the stands, the game was now 1-0. They had this game in the bag.
Minho might have spoken too soon, the other team being fierce competitors. During the second period, they managed to score a goal of their own, the game now tied. They had one period left to score at least one more goal to win the game, but it was progressively harder. The team was getting more rough, pushing more as they fought for the puck. Minho pushed right back, not backing down to their roughhousing. The crowd was sure getting a feisty game today.
Third quarter started with twenty minutes on the clock, every player wanting a win for their team. A few trips and slips went down as number 77 of the opposing team stole the puck from Chan, rushing down the rink to his goal. Minho was already on the defense, coming up in front of him and knocking the puck away from a straight line of fire. No one was there to catch the stray puck so another player from the opposing team used this moment to fly toward it, charging back with more intent to score. Felix had Minho's back as they blocked the incoming puck, the crowd roaring again.
Soon twenty minutes was down to five, the score still tied. Minho was out of breath, having been going so hard for this last play. He wanted to win, aimed to win this for Jisung. He fled as soon as he saw who had the puck, trying to catch up to them so they didn't score. His hockey stick crashed with theirs, the puck losing force as it neared the goal. Their goalie stopped it with a gentle hand, the referee calling for a puck drop. Minho stared down the other player as the puck went down, his gaze enough to distract the player. Then, it was back down the rink again, his mind whirring with who to pass it to. He saw Felix out of the corner of his eye and faked forward, the puck going sideways instead. Felix managed to snag it toward him, skating with intensity down the ice. The clock was still at two minutes, but two minutes could be the making or breaking point. A lot can happen in two minutes.
Felix was at a loss, too many players blocking his path. He shot the puck back to the side, hoping someone would catch it. One of their players has it in his clutch, racing with another player to score. Minho tries to level with him, in case the other player dives for puck. His hockey stick reaches for the puck and Minho goes in with him, trying to block it, eventually the puck shifts too far to the right, Minho going for it. He only spared a glance at the goal before chucking the puck with all his might...
The buzzer sounded, the puck made it with just a second to spare. The gym became a riot. Minho screamed, Chan joining and then the whole team went wild on the ice. They all smooshed in for a group hug, awkwardly fitting together with their padding. Minho was over the moon excited and he found Jisung in the crowd, the boy flying with his bounciness, his hair flopping as he raised his sign in the air. Oh was Minho ready to make him his.
