It had started snowing late last night and when morning came, a fresh blanket of white was outside Minho's door. Minho almost wanted to go outside and play in it... almost. He didn't want to freeze his butt of either. He was content being cozy in his warm house, maybe sipping some tea. He was in midst of putting the kettle on when his phone chimed.
Woojin said Jeongin wanted to build a snowman, wanna come with? Not really, Minho was about to decline when another message popped up. Jeongin wants me to tell you that Jisung will be there. A snow day wouldn't be so bad, just throw on a hat and scarf.
He found the bunch at a park near the school, Jeongin loud as always. He was sat on a sled, commanding Woojin to pull him faster and faster, happy giggles escaping as they zoomed in the snow. He saw Chan watching with a fond smile, Minho not sure if it was directed at both boys or just one. Another figure stood with him, bundled up in a large black coat and red scarf. His hair was tell enough to know it was Jisung. Minho smiled as he approached.
"I thought we were building a snowman." Minho called, grabbing the attention of the others as he finally stood next to Jisung, heart melting as he saw how bundled Jisung was. His scarf went as high as his nose, eyes the only focal point of his face. The balls of his cheeks poked out slightly, allowing Minho to see a small hint of red, probably from the cold nip of the air.
"We are, Jeongin wanted to wait for you." Woojin mumbled, out of breath as he come to stop in front of the trio. Jeongin hopped off the sled, clapping his gloved hands to get their attention.
"Great, now that we're all here, we can have some fun." The mischievous glint in his eyes made Minho nervous. "Let's have a contest! It'll be me and Woojin against..." Minho could already hear the words about to come out of his mouth. "Jisung and Minho!" He knew it. They locked eyes again, Jisung's coffee brown eyes widening. Minho felt himself grow hot, even in the ice cold weather.
"We'll totally beat you." Minho taunted, trying to laugh off the tension he felt. It wasn't like he was scared. There was no reason to be scared. It was just Jisung, Jisung who made his heart skip a beat and who had the best brown eyes Minho had ever seen. Perhaps he was a little overwhelmed because he'd have to interact with the beautiful boy and Minho still had no clue what to say. "You ready?" He figured it's a start.
Jisung nodded animatedly, his gloved hands coming up to adjust his scarf. Now, the top of his lips was visible, Minho maybe letting his eyes linger a bit too long. "You're going to lose, IN." Jisung taunted, giggles bursting through the tough man speak. Minho felt his heart soften even more.
"You're all talk." Jeongin retorted, pointing at Chan the next second. "You'll be the judge, count it down." Chan nodded holding up his hand and he counted down from three.
"GO!" That final shout sent everyone into action, Minho diving forward to start on the base of the snowman.
"I've got his lower half!" Minho told Jisung, already getting ready to roll his small snowball even bigger. "You start on his middle piece." Jisung was just as frantic, building his own snowball for the middle of the snowman. Minho could hear Jeongin whining, something or other about Woojin doing it wrong. Yep, they had this in the bag.
Minho rolled and rolled his snowball until he had a decently sized lump of snow in his arms, it was bigger than any other snowman he had made before and he felt accomplished as he set it into place.
"I'm ready for the middle piece." He looked over to where Jisung was, struggling to get the ball rolling again. "Here, I'll help." He made his way over, pushing the ball along with Jisung to get it on their snowman.
"It'll be pretty heavy to lift on your own." Jisung commented, noticing just how big his creation was.
"No problem, we'll lift it together." Minho's hands went down at the same time as Jisung's, their hands meeting at the same spot on the snowball. Jisung flipped, small squeak of surprise leaving his mouth as he retracted. Minho wasn't as bothered, or so he tried to appear. On the inside, his stomach was doing somersaults. Had it been skin to skin contact, Minho most definitely would have flipped too.
They try again, this time keeping their hands to themselves as they each got a good grip on the snowball. With one quick heave they had it in place, all that's left was the head. Jisung started on it, Minho taking this chance to scour the floor for some impromptu eyes and mouth. He caught a glimpse of the other guy's snowman, obnoxious laugh seeping out.
"You call that a snowman?" He couldn't help but laugh even more as Jeongin turned toward him, little pout on his lips.
"Shut up, you'll eat your words." Jeongin furiously went back to work, Woojin doing even more to make the boy happy again. Minho went back to looking for eyes, finding some nicely round pebbles by a tree. He ran back to where he left Jisung, the boy having a hard time putting the head on.
Without warning, Minho sidled up next Jisung, hand on the small of his back as the other aided in getting the head on. Jisung jumped with the sudden touch, the head of their snowman falling with a soft thud against the snow. Jisung scrambled to the floor.
"I'm sorry- that was- unex-expected - a-and..." Minho bent down with him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, it's okay. Let's just make another one." Minho was gentle with his words, conveying sincerity. He wasn't mad. He didn't think he could ever be mad with Jisung.
They worked together to build another head, this time Minho placing it on carefully. He then added the eyes and found a curvy stick to serve as the mouth. "We're done!" He shouted, putting his hand up for a high five. Jisung gave it to him tentatively, smile peeking out of his scarf. Minho thought it was cute.
"Good we are too." Woojin informed, revealing their masterpiece. Jisung broke out into a fit of giggles, Minho laughing with him as they saw the mess of a snowman the pair had made. "Stop that," Woojin chided, hugging a pouty Jeongin. "Don't pay them any mind Jeongin it's beautiful."
"Stop protecting him you big loser." Jisung said, moving to where Chan stood assessing their work. "I think it's obvious who won." Chan gave each snowman a good hard look, hand slowly moving to point to Minho's snowman. Last minute, his hand points to Jeongin.
"And I decide Woojin and Jeongin are the winners!" Jeongin, who had been hiding his face in Woojin's chest, bursts with giddy, smiling wide as he hugs Woojin tight.
"Yay! We won, ha!" Jisung scoffed, kicking snow toward Chan.
"You only chose them because of how whipped you are for Jeongin." He called out, crossing his arms with distaste. "You're being biased." Minho came around Jisung, snowball in hand.
"Yeah you're being unfair, I say we teach him a lesson." Minho smirked, acting fast and throwing the first hit.
"Hey!" Before Chan could hit him back, he made a mad dash, Jisung in tow. He had grabbed for his hand, not even thinking about it as they ran for cover. He was having too much fun to notice. He didn't notice the way Jisung clung to his back once they were hiding behind a tree, hands on Minho's shoulders as they dodged snowballs. Minho was basically protecting Jisung from any impact.
He didn't notice the soft smile on JIsung's lips as he watched Minho throw a snowball at Woojin, the snow crumbling over his coat upon impact.
Minho didn't notice the way Chan watched Minho and Jisung and finally put two and two together.
He was having too much fun to notice. To notice the way Jisung squeezed a little tighter, never wanting to let go of Minho.
