Winter break was far too short, Minho already back in algebra class learning about linear equations. How he wished he could go back to the ice rink everyday. He'd gone back everyday in hopes of seeing the red haired boy again, but he never showed. Dejected, he'd returned to school feeling hopeless, wanting nothing more than to see the boy again. He often wondered if he should have said something that fateful day, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway. After he had changed, the boy and Jeongin were long gone.
"You should perk up. I know school isn't your favorite place, but your face is kind of scary, bro." Unaware that he was even making a face, Minho faked a cheery smile. Chan still seemed unimpressed, shrugging his shoulders and looking forward. Truth be told, Minho felt miserable. He'd only caught a glimpse of the pretty boy, but he was all that he could think about. "Hey don't forget, Felix wants us to meet him after class so we can go to practice together." Minho nooded.
But even with Chan's reminder, he was still running late, having made it halfway to the gym before he realized his mistake. He ran back toward the school building, crashing into the pair in his haste.
"Sorry." He admitted regretfully, Chan giving him a disapproving look. Felix rolled his eyes, brushing past Minho.
"You've been really out of it lately, Minho. Are you okay?" Chan always knew when something was up. He could avoid this talk, but in reality, he knew he needed to get it off his chest.
"Can we talk?"
"After practice."
Practice went on as best as it could with Minho off his game. He just had too much on his mind and every pass to him meant a missed swing or faulty play. Chan finally decided to call it quits a half hour early, aware that with Minho in his current state would lead them them nowhere. Chan caught up with Minho after they had changed, dragging him and Felix to their favorite place, Logan's.
Logan's wasn't exactly the "trendiest" place to be. It was built almost a hundred years ago, refurbished some time in the 70s, and has never been renovated since. It still had the old timey booths and trashy wallpaper paper and they only ever played 80's music, but the boys all loved the rustic vibes it had. Not to mention, they had the best milkshakes in town.
They ordered their milkshakes and Chan was the first one to get the ball rolling. "Tell us what's been bothering you." Truth be told, Minho wasn't even sure where to start. There was a lot he wanted to say, but with no idea of how he should say it.
"Do you guys believe in love at first sight?"
"You can't fall in love with someone at a glance, that's superficial." Chan answered first, always practical. Felix shook his head, ready to rebuttal.
"I disagree, and you know why." Felix had been swooned by a sophomore when he was a freshman. He had followed the guy around since he first laid eyes on him, demanding his attention and clinging to him like glue. He was almost like a lost puppy following a new master. They guy had refused all of that year, claiming he could never fall for someone like Felix, so soft and pure. But some time during summer school, the guy had changed his mind, claiming Felix wasn't as pure as he thought. Felix still hadn't told the guys what exactly happened that summer, but Minho thinks he'd rather not find out.
"You can't claim that to be love Felix, You simply liked him."
"If I simply 'liked' him, I would never have gone as far as I did." Minho thought it had some truth. Chan looked ready to make another argument, but Felix had more to say. "I can reason with you, that maybe at a glance it can't be love, but it sure as hell can become love." Chan gave up with Felix, turning back to Minho.
"Alright, I guess it can become love. But why do you ask?" This was it, this was where he admits he's been obsessing over some boy for the past week, but suddenly he lost all courage. He didn't want to admit to being a weirdo who had a crush on someone he didn't even know the name of. He also knew Chan would probe and he had no real details other than the color of his hair and the shape of his face.
"Just curious." Chan was far from convinced, but he let him off the hook, knowing full well there would be more to come. Minho was grateful for Chan. Not so much for Felix.
"Liar! Tell us who you love." He put emphasis on the word love and Minho only laughed, temporarily forgetting his misery.
