I am a mystery. Even to myself. Even after 23 years of exploration. This world has not figured who I am. But the secret the world holds has reached my grasp. It came suddenly like a car smashing into a tree.
The car was blue. A vibrant blue that you would only see on a midsummer day. Almost as beautiful as the color of her eyes.
My car was green. A shade was darker than the tree her blue car hit. So when I stopped it looked as though it was me who made her hit that God-forsaken tree.
The car was set aflame and the tree had caved in, crushing the other components that had laid inside. I didn't rush to this car until I heard her soft whimper. My adrenaline kicked in sending me running faster than I had ever run before. It was that adrenaline that gave me the strength to rip open her crushed door and pulled her from the car. That's when I saw her face.
Her skin was pale. Her pink, plump lips were just slightly open. Everything on her face was magnificent. I couldn't help but smile at how perfect she was. I then saw the blood run down her chiseled cheekbone and splat on my sleeve.
I looked up and watched as the blue car began to sizzle. That's when I smelled the fuel. I held her frail body close to mine as I ran from the danger that was about to occur. Then it blew. It flew me back toward my car making me watch the falling stars. There were so many of them, all flying toward me. Getting closer and closer.
I reached up for the handle of the car and slid this angel into my car. I have never felt the need to protect anyone so badly. Well except Calvin, but that's another story. Each "star" hit my car, it was pretty for a moment. Finally seeing something protect me from the harsh aspects of this world. I turned back smiling at her. Watching each shallow breath collect and release.
I didn't realize I had called the police until I saw the sirens light up my brown leather seats behind her. I noticed that we were safe from the blast and decided to pull her from my car. I held her close and ran her over to the paramedic.
I couldn't hear much after they took her from me. An officer kept asking me questions and he seemed satisfied with my answers, but I can't remember what I said. I was only worried for her. That's when I saw the most beautiful thing my eyes will ever see.
Her eyes. Her sparkling, bright blue eyes. Each had its intricate design giving it depth unknown to anyone. I got lost in those eyes. A medic had bandaged her wound and cleaned her up. I saw her perfect face once again and couldn't help but stare because it was staring right back at me this time.
She rose from the back of the ambulance and walked towards me each step getting louder and louder. Her arms were wrapped around her while her fingers grasped the blanket around her tightly. It wasn't until she spoke I had broken from my stare. "Thank you." She smiled at me. It was genuine and pure too. "I'm Andy by the way." She extended her hand out to me invitingly.
I cleared my throat and shook myself from the trance I was stuck in. "Westin." Is all I managed to say.
She gave me a beautiful smile and closed her stunning eyes just for a moment. "You saved my life today. How can I ever pay you back?" She looked longingly into my eyes as if I was supposed to say something now, so I did.
"Don't do it again." Stupid! You are an idiot! How could you say that?
"I don't think that'll happen anytime soon." She chuckled lightly. She stepped closer to me and took the seat next to me. "Mind if I sit?" I nodded my head and she rested her head on my shoulder. Instantly there was a spark that had ignited in me.
"What happened?" I gently whispered. Hoping for a better answer than what I received
"Fox jumped out at me." She spoke louder than I had.
"Sure, okay," I said disbelievingly. The look I received was priceless. A mixture of astonishment and offensiveness was cute. I chuckled at her expression letting my mind take a quick mental picture. Her face slowly progressed into a blushed smile. "I was only kidding." I smiled.
"Good now I don't have to prove it." She smiled back, sending shivers down my spine.
I began to think about all the destroyed boxes and clothing scattered around us. "I assume you were moving around this area," I noted.
"Yeah, I am moving into an apartment downtown. I'm hoping to study writing at UCLA." Her face lit up just talking about it.
"I'm earning my master's for music performance." I smiled some more. "Maybe I can give you a ride there sometime."
"I guess I'll have to take you up on that." She looked back to the burning wreck, letting a tear roll down her cheek. Instinctively I wiped away that tear with the pad of my thumb. She looked deeply into my eyes as though I had the answer to the universe.
Just then an officer stopped by and pulled out his notepad. "Miss?" He looked at her. She looked up at him and smiled. "Can you tell me what happened here?" He pointed to the wreck that had finally stopped burning.
"I was driving down the road and a fox jumped out at me, I swerved trying to not hit it, and I ended up hitting the tree. I guess I should have just stopped." Her voice became very solemn and dark.
"It's not your fault," I spoke up, surprised I had said anything at this point. The cop glared at me through his sunglasses, making me shift uncomfortably. "Sorry, Sir," I mumbled.
"There was a large safe that had survived the explosion. A tough safe might I say. Do you need help taking it downtown?" The Officer smiled at her.
He was hitting on her and I wasn't just about to hand her over to an officer. "I'll bring her and the rest of her things to her apartment." I stood up, acting like I was stretching my legs.
That's when she touched my hand for the first time. Her skin was so soft against my calloused hands. We both jumped a little as a small spark had just electrified us both. "Really?" She smiled at me.
"Of course, I live in the area anyway." I looked back down at her, smiling my not-so-nice smile.
The cop took us to her safe, which was about medium size and wasn't heavy at all. I picked it up and lead this angel to my car. She got in the passenger seat as I placed the safe in the back seat. I got in, as she began to play with the radio stations, bouncing between the alternative station and the pop station.
I laughed as she sang along with the tunes radiating from my speakers.
